You've heard the same story that I have about the black edged letter that the family received. That story was being told today. I just left a Bly reunion in Spring Valley. How are you connected to the Monroes? I am connected through Elvira Olida Monroe who married John Rathbun. I'm away from home right now but will send you everything that I've collected on the family if you want it. I found the census records for John and Roxy in Ohio and also in Illinois.
