    1. [NYCATTAR] 1895 obit
    2. Doris Wheeler
    3. Is there anyone who would be willing to check the Ischua, NY newspapers for an obituary that was published soon after 16 Nov 1895, the date of death for JOHN WHEELER? I will be more than happy to pay any costs or fees associated with finding this obit. I have a copy of it, but it does not show the source. Although he died in New Hudson, Allegany County, several of his children lived in Ischua, so the obituary may have been published there. I desperately need a copy of the obit complete with the masthead for the newspaper, if at all possible. The text of the obit follows: "The death of Mr. John Wheeler of New Hudson, occured(sic) at his home last Saturday morning after an illness of about two weeks. Deceased was born August 16, 1820, at Bath, this state, and in 1829 moved with his parents to Ischua. March 27, 1851, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Laura Stone, and began housekeeping on the farm where he passed forty-five years of his life, and where he died. He was a man of exemplary habits, a good neighbor, a devoted husband and a most kind and indulgent parent. Death had no terrors for him, and he was perfectly resigned to go. Looking up to his weeping wife and children, a few moments before he breathed his last, he said, "I am going to leave you -- going away over Jordan." Besides the widow, six children mourn his loss, Frank and Fred of Cuba, Mrs. John Hackett of Ischua, Arthur Wheeler of New Hudson, Charles Wheeler of Lyndon and Mrs. Helen Randolph of Toledo, O. For nearly fifty years he was a member of the Baptist church. His funeral was held at his late home, Tuesday morning at 11 o'clock, Rev. D. H. Denison officiating." Many thanks for any help. Doris Wheeler [When replying, please keep the conversation thread attached.]
