There is a stone for Laban LEWIS in the Sandusky, Cattaruagus Co., cemetery. There is no date of death on it. Here is a copy of the information I sent to a friend who is also interested in the family of Laban LEWIS. I also forwarded your post to my friend. Hope this is helpful. (Oct. 2000) While perusing the Wyoming Co. Herald at the Arcade (Wyoming Co. NY) library last week, I came across the following, which I thought might be of some interest to you ;>). Also took some pictures at the cemetery. I dropped off a roll at Sam's on my way home this afternoon, and I have more still in my camera. If the library had a reader/printer I would have made you a copy of the obit, but unfortunately, they did not. In fact, the reader was relegated to an out of the way spot to make room for computers and had only the desk space the reader itself occupied. I did find what I was looking for, which was the wedding announcement of my great grandmother's brother, Freeman Howlett. Barbara WYOMING COUNTY HERALD, THURSDAY, MAY 16, 1907 (Wyoming Co., NY) front page William Frank Lewis died at his home in Arcade, May 7th, 1907, aged 71 years, 7 months and 8 days. He was the son of Laban Lewis and Sarah Tarble Lewis, and born at Freedom October 15th, 1835. He was the youngest of a family of fifteen children, all but two of whom; Mrs. Jane Austin of Farmersville and Mrs. Calista Wilder of Detroit, Mich., having preceeded him to the other land. His parents were born in New England and his father served with distinction in the war of 1812, afterwards coming to Western New York in ox carts and locating in the town of Freedom. On October 15, 1861, he was united in marriage to Clarinda M. Wilson of Freedom, to whom were born six children, Wilson E., Fred H., Addie E., Rena, W. Frank and Lulu M. all of whom survive him and were with him to minister to the last wants of a kind and loving father. He resided for some time in the town of Eagle, coming to Arcade about twenty five years ago, where the remainder of his life has been spent, and where he has been held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was a man of strict integrity and honorable in all his dealings. His wife died April 6, 1890, and he later married Mrs. Rosalind Weir of Arcade, who also survives him, and was able to be with and care for him in his last illness, which lasted four months. The funeral was held from the home on Liberty street on Thursday, May 9th, Rev. H.L. Holmes, pastor of the M.E. Church officiating. He was buried in the family plot at Sandusky beside the wife of his youth, father, brother and sister. His brother was laid in the first grave in the Sandusky cemetery. Among those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. C.M. Wilder, Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. J. Wilson, Johnson City, Tenn; Mr. and Mrs. R. McFarlane, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wilson, Eagle; Messrs. Fred, James and Reuben Austin and Mr. and Mrs. R. Lewis, Farmersville. ************************** Several articles below, in the same column: Card of Thanks We wish to thank the friends and neighbors who were so kind to us during the illness and death of our beloved husband and father.
