Hi List. I'm new to this particular list and would like to know just when Gowanda State Hospital closed and if anyone knows what became of the old records. My mother (now deceased) was a patient there in 1958-60 and, if at all possible, I'd like to get her records. Her institutionalization was always a mystery in our family, no one talked about it. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanx! Valerie from NH
Valerie, I got my grandfather's Gowanda records by writing the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, 400 Forrest Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213. Give them as much information as you have to help in their search. Good luck. Dick Robert Lowe wrote: > Hi List. I'm new to this particular list and would like to know just when Gowanda State Hospital closed and if anyone knows what became of the old records. Valerie. If you go to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/3548/facility/gowanda.htm you can get some background on Gowanda State Hospital. I'm not sure where the old records are but suspect they may be in storage in Albany. If not in Albany they may have been sent to Buffalo Psychiatric Center when Gowanda closed.
