    3. John Worden b 1807/08 married Esther Whiting (b 1811 Maine), probably Chautauqua County, NY. (Esther Whiting's family had recently moved from Maine to Allegany County, NY, so John and Esther could have married in either Allegany County or Chautauqua County.) The 1830 Federal Census finds John and Esther residing in Hanover, Chautauqua County, NY; 1840 Federal Census finds them in Poland, Chautauqua County, NY; 1850 census in Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County, NY. The family seems to break up sometime between 1850 and 1855, as the older children are residing with relatives in the 1855 census, with no sign of John Worden, Esther (Whiting) Worden and the two youngest Worden children, Esther Ann and Elbert/Ehlert. John Worden and Esther (Whiting) Worden Children: Lois Elvira - b 1830 Hanover, Chautauqua County, NY - married Miles Colton Lydia Jane - b 1832 Hanover, Chautauqua County, NY - married 1) Asa Eastland; 2) Charles Babcock Hannah Minerva - b 1834 Hanover, Chautauqua County, NY - married Isaac H. Beach Alsophina - born 1839 Hanover, Chautauqua County, NY - married John H. Peck (my line) - Peck family resided in Machias until shortly after the Civil War - removed to Wayland, Allegan County, Michigan until 1872 when Alsophina divorced John and moved to Iowa with their daughter Ida May Peck, leaving her ex-husband John and their son Harvey in Wayland. Benjamin - b 1840 Poland, Chautauqua County, NY - married 1) Prudence Catherine Martin; 2) Kate Ann (Jennie) Hawkins I have recently found Esther (Whiting) Worden's marriage to one Richard B. Nuzum on April 1, 1855 in Marion County, Virginia (now West Virginia). Apparently Esther had married ___ Clarke sometime after the 1850 Federal Census and before April 1, 1855, as Esther was called "Widow Clarke" at the time of her marriage. I do know that this is my Esther Whiting Worden, as probate records have been found in Yorkshire to prove this is the correct Esther. The 1860 census finds Esther residing with her third husband, Richard B. Nuzum, some children from his first marriage (that wife deceased) and the two younger Worden children, Esther Ann and Ehlert, now using the name Clarke. I have also recently found the death of one John C. Worden (1872) in Orangeville, Barry County, Michigan. The death certificate indicates this John C. Worden was born 1808 in Chautauqua County, NY. His parents' names were unknown. The 1860 and 1870 census give his wife's name as Harriet, twelve years his junior, also born NY. Land records indicate that John Worden purchased this land from the US Government in 1856. I believe this John Worden to be my ancestor, John Worden, first husband of Esther Whiting. His daughter (my ancestor) Alsophina Worden Peck would have been residing in next door Allegan County, Michigan in 1872, at the time of his death in Barry County. I believe after her father's death, Alsophina's marriage which was probably already weak, could take no more, at which time she divorced her husband and came to Iowa with her daughter. I seek help with the following questions: 1) Proof that the John Worden who died 1872 in Orangeville, Barry County, Michigan is indeed the John Worden who first appears 1830 Hanover; 1840 Poland; 1850 Yorkshire. 2) Names of John Worden's parents 3) Name and marriage information and death information for Esther (Whiting) Worden's second husband, whose surname was Clarke or Clark. I am guessing she probably met and married him around Yorkshire, Cattaraugus County, NY and he probably died in or around Marion County, Virginia (now West Virginia) ca 1854. 4) Descendants of the two youngest children: Esther Ann Worden born abt 1843 New York, going by the surname Clark(e). I believe she might have married one Benjamin Mason in Marion County, West Virginia 20 Dec 1863, although old family records passed down in my family indicate she married a ___ Nugent. 5) Descendants of Elbert/Ehlert (Worden) Clark(e) born abt 1845 New York. I believe he married 1) Elizabeth Jane Hovater and had at least the following Clark children: Andrew born abt 1861 Marion County, Virginia (WV) and Elizabeth Clark born abt 1864 Marion County, Virginia (WV); married 2) Sarah Stevens and had Louise E. Clark born abt 1880. 6) I also seek the death date and place of my Esther (Whiting) Worden Nuzum. Richard B. Nuzum died 1887. At that time, I believe Esther was still alive. I do not know if she died in what was then known as West Virginia, or if she perhaps moved north again to New York (perhaps Cattaraugus County) to be with some of her other children, or perhaps moved elsewhere to be with children I have not yet placed. Any and all assistance greatly appreciated. Brenda Hare Cedar Rapids, Iowa
