"Mary Porter Crawford was born at Attica on Sept. 5th, 1833. Her parents died when she was three years old. Soon after she was adopted by Ephraim Porter and wife and came to West Machias to live. On Sept. 4th, 1854, she was married to Amos Allen of West Machias and began housekeeping on the Allen homestead at that place. She resided there until her death on Saturday, March 24, 1917. Four children were born to them. Mrrs. Elizabeth s. Phillips who preceded her to the spirit land is Nov. 1913. Mrs. Emma Sisson, Mrs. Amanda Phillips and George Allen of West Machias. She leaves eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her husband died about seven months ago. They have been old neighbors and friends here for many years and have had the respect and esteem of all. Mrs. Allen has always proved to be a true friend and sympathizing neighbor and everyone feels that one has passed away who will be missed by all who knew her."
