Heading: Death of a Bridegroom Subheading: Alvin Hammann's Burial Day just four weeks after his Wedding Day "Less than a month ago we published in these colums the marriage notice of Mr. Alvin Hammann and Miss Flossie Robinson, both of this town. To-day we publish the death notice of the young bridegroom, who was but 23 years old. A little more than a week ago Mr. Hammann was stricken with the measles, which disease has been prevalent in the west end of town lately. Although young and seemingly robust, he was unable to withstand the ravages of the disease and on Monday morning consternation was written on his face when the announcement came that 'Alvain Hamman is dead'. The young man was the son of Mr. Wm. Hammann and most of his life had passed in this immediate vicinity. As stated above, less than a month ago, he had begun the foundation of a home by taking as his wife the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Robinson. We can imagine that many plans had been made for the future by this young bride and groom, for whom the honeymoon had not begun to wane. But his sudden snatching away is but another reminder that death is no respector of persons and 'while the old must die, the young may die.' A doubly sad feature is the fact that the young bride is also lying very ill with measles, and as we go to press, we learn that two more of this family are stricken, namely, Mrs. Geo. Robinson and a younger daughter, Mr. Hamann, his father, is also confined to his bed with illness. The deceased leaves a father, two brothers and four sisters, his mother having died several years ago. The funeral was held Wednesday, Feb. 27, just exactly four weeks from his wedding day. The services occurred at McKinstry, Rev. Tubbs, of East Ashford (who was also the clergyman who performed the marriage ceremony) officiating. Internment at McKinstry. The family are greatly afflicted and the sympathy of all goes out to them." Susan Stahley rsm.stahley@verizon.net Professional Genealogist http://www1.cedar-rapids.net/page/brickwall/
