I am not related to the family, but wante to post this for any relatives: "Dewitt Clinton Mathewson, a former resident of East Ashford, drowned himself on Thursday night, in a small pond on the grounds of the Randolph State Hospital, where he had been an inmate at time. He had been insane at times for nearly forty years having been committed to State Institutions seven times during those years. The cause of his trouble was thought to have been an injury by a horse when a young man. When well he was a pleasant agreeable man, and always peaceful and an excellent worker. He was twice married, first to Miss Schultes, by whom he had one son, and later to Mrs. Ava Bond by whom he had two daugthers, all of whom are now living. He was a brother of Mr. Marion Mathewson and Mr. Henry Mathewson of Riceville and another brother and two sisters in the West. On Thursday night he went went out to swim as he had done often this summer. He removed his clothing except his heavy socks and stockings. This may have been the cause of his drowing. Funeral services at East Ashford, Sunday. Rev. Hill officiating."
