    1. [NYCATTAR] More Information on Parker and McCapes Families
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Parker, McCapes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RRB.2ACE/6172 Message Board Post: I am still looking into the Major McCapes and Samuel Parker families of Cattaraugus County. Both are my great great great grandfathers, or third great grandfathers. The McCapes family became well entrenched in the county, but I have practically no information on the Parkers. Major McCapes and Samuel Parker owned land per the Holland Land Record Company. The Holland records show that Major McCapes purchased on October 30, 1821, lot 39 of Section 00, Township 02, Range 09. Samuel P. Parker purchased on October 1, 1822, lot 38 of Section 00, Township 02, Range 09, the same section, township, and range as Major McCapes. Major's farm, left to his son James McCapes, would have been just west of Randolph Village, almost exactly between Torrence and Watts Roads on West Main Street, possibly a bit closer to Watts. Major's land would lay on either side of West Main Street. The farm would be south of Interstate 86 (?) or Highway 17. I would guess that West Main Street is the Old Jamestown Road. Samuel Parker’s land would be south of Major’s land, and just a bit southwest of Randolph Village. Samuel does not appear on the 1830 census, or later census records for that matter, so I presume he sold his land just south of Major’s land and moved on. Possibly he died by that time and the family moved away. Does anyone have any information on Samuel? Some additional information is that Samuel had a son, Samuel Perry Parker, who married Teressa Brown McCapes, daughter of Major, on January 12, 1832 (possibly 1833) in Randolph. I received detailed information on the marriage from a 104-year-old second cousin who no doubt has an official document but cannot find it. She does not remember exactly where she got the information. There must be a certificate of some kind, however. Abraham Bush, Justice of the Peace, performed the ceremony. The history of the county states that in 1825, Abraham G. Bush, settled in town and made improvements on lots 23 and 24. "He inaugurated and successfully carried on several important businesses, and was, in his time, the most prominent man in town." Mary A. Woodworth, witnessed the marriage of Samuel Perry Parker and Teressa Brown McCapes. Mary later married Enfield Leach. Enfield took over a lumber business and another business started by Woodworth and Bush. Enfield, Mary, and her father Zebedee are next door to Major McCapes Jr. on the 1850 Randolph census. Samuel Parker had at least seven children: Samuel Perry Parker above, Ambrose, Olive, Cyrus, Clarissy, Charles, and Eli Curtis. Any help on this family would be greatly appreciated. Could anyone check a deed index record at the county courthouse for me? I will gladly pay costs.
