Hi, I'm looking for data on an Earl SAWYER b. about 1789, in Vermont, wife Polly b. about 1794 in New Hampshire. Trying to determine if they had a son named John S. SAWYER, b. about 1928. My leads come from census data, but I believe he may be a direct ancestor of mine. In 1860 my 3rd g-grandfather, John S. SAWYER, appears in the Centerville, Allegany Co., census, with his parents listed as born in Vermont and New Hampshire. John had a son named Earl D. SAWYER. Earl had a grandson named, Earl D. Gillette. I believe the name may have been passed down from this first Earl Sawyer. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, Fred Las Vegas, NV _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
Fred - I had a minute to check the 1850 census records for you - Earle Sawyer is listed in the index as EARLE SAYRE instead of Sawyer, and in the actual record, the census taker spelled it as SAYER - then wrote a little W over the Y. A John Sayer, age 22, is living with Earle and Polly - making him the right age for your John Sawyer. Also living with them is Martha Sayer, age 18, and Eunice, age 34, and what appear to be Herman Hyde, age 16 (?) , and May A. Hyde, age 12. So hopefully this is your John!
