Sorry Jeff, you've got this one wrong. The LDS church does not make money on genealogy. The church has nothing to do with MyFamily/Ancestry other than that many of the employees happen to be LDS. The church has it's own free website (FamilySearch.org) and practically gives away its genealogy software & materials. I can't even imagine the miliions of dollars that have been spent around the world to get all the information that's available in the Salt Lake Family History Library. It's all FREE, including library access to Ancestry.com. You are right about the "gold-mine" in genealogy, but the LDS church isn't "mining" here - it's giving away the "gold"! Cheers!
