Erin, That's true - you had to upgrade to US Deluxe from US Records Collection to gain access to any new records added as noted in Ancestry's Newsletter of Dec 2005. After upgrading, you were to get access to ANY record having to do with residents living in America - so records of any ship to America, any immigrant groups to America, etc. And for some time those records, including all newly added ones, were available. However, a huge brand new slew of American records were just added that they are not allowing US Deluxe subscribers to access - they are requiring yet another upgrade to World Deluxe. (For example - Scot surnames in America is requiring a World Deluxe upgrade, even though clearly this record is about people living on US soil. This is not in keeping with what Ancestry promised to US Deluxe subscribers when they upgraded). We have contacted Ancestry Customer Service - I even spoke with a manager there who can do nothing but pass the world along. (Note again - all earlier records of the Irish, or the Scottish, or the English, or the Russian, or whatever, living in America are supposed to be in the US Deluxe subscription, and in fact are accessible. Only the new ones being added now are being closed out to US Deluxe subscribers. The main problem here is that people upgrade their subscription, then a few months down the road aren't able to access what they were told they were subscribing to without doing ANOTHER upgrade - a very expensive one at that. If enough people post on Ancestry.com's site comment boards, perhaps they will reconsider. Of course, this could be very wishful thinking on my part. :-) I appreciate that this is not a specific Cattaraugus county request for help, but since so many of us use Ancestry, I thought it would be ok to post the issue and request support. For those of you on other mailing lists, would you mind posting a notice on those boards as well so that hopefully enough people will contact Ancestry to register their concern? Once again, the new records that are not accessible in the US Deluxe Subscription are records of people LIVING IN THE US. These records were guaranteed by ancestry to be accessible in the US Deluxe Subscription. We all understand that records of people living in other countries require a World Deluxe Subscription to view. Thanks! Laura
Hello Laura, We meet again! Today was supposed to be my monthly day at the Buffalo library as a genealogical volunteer, but I just returned home Saturday to find my yard looking somewhat like an impact zone on the business end of 8-inch howitzers thanks to the "October Surprise", a devastating ice/snow/wind storm. Anyway I can't spend too much time now until I get my yard cleaned up...it'll take a week or more. I'm delighted that you took the time to enlighten us on Ancestry's latest rip-off. I have had a complaint pending with the BBB in Utah since June regarding Ancestry's (My Family.com) processing of some Irish surnames. I first complained to Ancestry in February or earlier. They have never admitted that any problem exists. The BBB has not prodded them to resolve this matter. Maybe its a case of Utah folks sticking together.I am now considering complaints to the FTC, US Attorney in Utah, and the Utah Attorney General. Ancestry clearly has a serious ethics problem and will not respond to criticisms. I wonder if it would be feasible to join together, solicit volunteers, and attempt to deal with them as a group of dissatisfied customers. Even a class action suit might not be out of the question. I don't have more time now but I do want to pursue this in a couple of weeks. Regards, Tom O'Hare, Clarence, NY PS -- My Family.com, the parent company, is regarded as "satisfactory" by the Utah BBB even though they have received more than 700 complaints against them. Check the BBB web site. ---- Original Message ----- From: "L Greene" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, October 23, 2006 1:01 PM Subject: Re: [NYCATTAR] Ancestry.com changes > Erin, > That's true - you had to upgrade to US Deluxe from US Records Collection > to > gain access to any new records added as noted in Ancestry's Newsletter of > Dec 2005.
