    3. Why don't we all band together and initiate a Class Action Lawsuit against Ancestry.com and their parent company. Maybe that is the only thing those greedy _ _ _ _ _ _ _ will understand. I would be glad to make a contribution towards a legal fund. Dr. Dixon G. Doc STEVENS P. O. Today was supposed to be my monthly day at the Buffalo library as a genealogical volunteer, but I just returned home Saturday to find my yard looking somewhat like an impact zone on the business end of 8-inch howitzers thanks to the "October Surprise", a devastating ice/snow/wind storm. Anyway I can't spend too much time now until I get my yard cleaned up...it'll take a week or more. I'm delighted that you took the time to enlighten us on Ancestry's latest rip-off. I have had a complaint pending with the BBB in Utah since June regarding Ancestry's (My Family.com) processing of some Irish surnames. I first complained to Ancestry in February or earlier. They have never admitted that any problem exists. The BBB has not prodded them to resolve this matter. Maybe its a case of Utah folks sticking together.I am now considering complaints to the FTC, US Attorney in Utah, and the Utah Attorney General. Ancestry clearly has a serious ethics problem and will not respond to criticisms. I wonder if it would be feasible to join together, solicit volunteers, and attempt to deal with them as a group of dissatisfied customers. Even a class action suit might not be out of the question. I don't have more time now but I do want to pursue this in a couple of weeks. Regards, Tom O'Hare, Clarence, NY PS -- My Family.com, the parent company, is regarded as "satisfactory" by the Utah BBB even though they have received more than 700 complaints against them. 3. Judy, I'm not sure what you mean about my old road in my address. My street address is 228 Spring Street, but we don't use that in our address, as we have a post office box where we have our mail sent. I recommend we have a massive letter writing to the CEO of the parent company before we institute a class action law suit. If we do not receive an acceptable response from the letter writing campaign, then we look into a class action lawsuit. Let's try to first appeal to their sense of fairness (if they have one), and save the more aggressive approach as a backup strategy. What do the rest of you think? Dr. Dixon G. 1. Re: [NYCATTAR] Ancestry.com changes - my four-bits worth.....
    2. searching for data
    3. I've followed, with interest, the discussion of Ancestry and would make the following suggestion. How much would it cost you to spend hotel nights, travel expenses, etc. to locate some of the many things you can find on Ancestry? I justify the dollars I spend by thinking about what it would cost to travel to the site(s) to access the records I need. Some years I need lots and other years I need nothing so I don't subscribe. Some years I need foreign data and other years only what's in the US. I started doing this long before computerized data was available and have spent an incredible amount on this hobby (it would scare me to death had I ever kept track of those expenses!), so I recognize the fantastic tools with which we now have to work, but we really shouldn't expect to get something for nothing. If we don't like the way a company operates we don't need to use it, or we can encourage them to change, but seems to me we don't need to go to war over such trivial details! --------------------------------- Talk is cheap.
