I have been looking for information about a William Hitchcock born Ontario Co NY about 1825. Later married Lydia Bailey and lived in Dayton Cattaraugus before immigrating to McHenry Co Illinois in the 1860s. His parentage is unknown to me, but I have wanted to investigate his possible connection to Bethuel. Were Bethuel and Otis Hitchcock brothers? They lived next door to one another in the 1830 census in Cattaraugus. Then in 1840, Bethuel does not appear, but Otis is next door to William. This is a tantalizing connection for me because I have been unable to learn anything about William's origins. He was my maternal GG grandfather. My grandfather said he thought his g grandfather (that would be Bethuel's generation,) had fought in the War of 1812. Any help you can offer will be appreciated.
