He did have one son Alexander who died when he was 10 days old. So I think this Alexander must be from an unwed daughter or adopted??? I followed this Alexander(grandson). He married a Julia. They had a child Margie in 1894 who married a William Miller. But by 1930 I had lost them. It's a mystery. Sorry I can't help more. Alexander is one of my brick walls.
