I know this won't help much in NY State, but FYI just last friday ( the 14th)) I went to smethport, PA ( mckean county courthouse) and looked for several marriage licenses. I knew two were second marriages, and mostly just wanted the dates, but the kind lady there went and dug out about 15 original license APPLICATIONS for me. They in PA include the date of divorce and the reason and two were as recent as the 1930's. So don't give up hope! The information is out there somewhere. Good luck!
