New York State only had death records from 1881 on, and if you want a complete copy of the death certificate, you would be better off writing to the NYS Health Department. I have ordered death certificates from the clerks and for some odd reason I have never got an actual copy. Also, the charge is $22 and if Leon doesn't have the certificate, you would still be charged the $22. Same with NYS, if they don't have the death certificate, you will still be charged for the search.
