He was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Aug. 17, 1931. He served with honor and pride in the U.S. Navy during Korea from 1948 to 1952 as a UDT diver (Seal). He married Dee "D.J." in 1979 when they resided in Maine. They have been residents of the Beulah community for 19 years. He leaves behind his wife of 30 years, Dee; a brother, Robert Smith; sisters, Pamela Smith and Nora Smith, all of New York City, N.Y.; a son, James Smith; a daughter, Terry Luckenhaus of Monroe, Mo.; three stepchildren, Don Gilbert, Dana Leighton and David Leighton; an adopted daughter, Cindi Ward; as well as many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His pride was his grandson, Eric, who now is serving in Korea, after three tours in Iraq. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Foothills Food Pantry, 233 Cooper St., Dobson, NC 27017. A service of remembrance and celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at Oak Grove Baptist Church for the community and its people.     3. Could you furnish more details in how to bring up the 1865 census records on that site?  I found other records available but census wasn't listed. If you can trace Hannah's ancestry back to England, to Bexhill, in Sussex, we could be related. All of my Priors came from Sussex, in 1834. Do you know what her Pryer heritage is, earlier than 1804? You mention a Prior ancestor. I have one, too, sort of. My gr-gr-grandfather James Hawley Fuller married Eleanor Stowell. Eleanor's mother's name was Hannah Pryer, however, I have seen it spelled as Prior. As far as I know, and that's not far, she was from Allegany County. I wonder if there's a connection there, too?
