In Part One of "Biographical Sketches of the Leading Citizens, Otsego County, New York" there is a bio of Chauncey Kendall, son of Capt. Uriah Kendall.? It lists his mother as Mary?DOWNER who was born in Vermont, a daughter of Zacheus DOWNER, a Revolutionary War soldier.? He (Zacheus DOWNER)?was supposed to have been a native of Vermont, and died in Utica, NY.? How this fits in with your Downer family, I don't know but I thought I'd pass it along. Did you put a query on the Chautauqua County board?? I grew up in northern Chautauqua County and remember a Downer family?that lived there in the Forestville area.

I have a feeling that he was involved in this county. I have found many family trees that list Zaccheus Downer (Born 1799 in New York) with a lot of specific information that I have not yet been able to confirm or deny. For example, many of the trees list his exact birth date and place as 8 Mar 1799 in New Lisbon, Otsego, New York. I have not been able to find a birth record or index for this. While I am pretty sure that he was born in 1799 (all of the censuses that I have him in, have this as his approximate year of birth) and I am pretty sure that he was born in Otsego County, New York because his family lived there - But I don't have any solid proof! Many people also list Zaccheus Downer as marrying a Harriet Thatcher on 12 Feb 1823 - while my theory is that the couple married in the 1820s, I have no concrete proof. I also have no concrete proof that Harriet's maiden name was Thatcher. I have Zaccheus and his family in multiple federal censuses: 1830 U.S. Census - Perrysburg, Cattaraugus County, New York. 1840 U.S. Census - Dayton, Cattaraugus County, New York. 1850 U.S. Census - Belpre, Washington County, Ohio 1860 U.S. Census - Belpre, Washington County, Ohio 1870 U.S. Census - Hamilton, Sullivan County, Indiana. His children (that I know of) are listed below: Albert Downer Sanford Downer Julia Ann Downer Augustus Downer Asa Downer (sometimes indexed as Ava or Ara) Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am more than willing to help in any way that I can - I just want another researcher who is willing to collaborate! Thank you. I am hoping to track down at least one descendant of Catherine Ryan Wheeler of Alleghany Catt. Co. Ryan may have been her maiden name. Michael Wheeler was her husband. This is what I have:Michael Wheeler in 1865. he was age 47, wife name Catherine age 28, children Joanna 13, James 11, Michael 9, I am assuming was from Michael's first marriage. John age 5 roger age 3 and Patrick age 1. 1870 Catherine age 32, John 9, Roger 7 Honora my grandmother also called Nora, Mary A. age 2 William 5/12 and Michael 14. Town of Carrollton, 1875 Catherine Wheeler 24, John 14, Roger 12, Patrick 10, Nora 8, Mary Ann 6, William 4, William Ryan, brother 25. I have other info as well that states that Catherine was born in the free state of Ireland and most likely was Catholic. and by 1875 Catherine at age 37 was a widow. There was a family bible talked about but I haven't a clue as to if it even exist. Nora married David L. Swartz about 1885 but so far there is no marriage or newspaper article written about it.David was a stone mason and was from Venango Co. , he had a son and daughter from his first marriage. The daughter Vinta was born about 1878 and the son Jerrold Franklin b. between 1879 and 1881. Sure would appreciate some help in locating a long lost relative of my grandma and her parents. ____________________________________________________________ Easy-to-use, advanced features, flexible phone systems. Hi, Apslatin, I know you are going to do your own research there and probably do not have time to check on other people, but if you were so generously inclined, I would so appreciate a check to see if there is probate material for a Lavina BARSE MILLS. Lavina BARSE, b. abt 1816 in Vermont, d. abt 16 Dec 1853 (date of obituary) in Olean, Cattaraugus; m. Warren MILLS 13 Oct 1832 in Starkey, Yates County. I am looking for proof that she is one of the BARSE children of John BARSE and Betsey RANDALL, and death/probate papers may have further genealogical information I am missing. If you don't have time, thanks anyway, and please disregard. The Cattaraugus county volunteer team has completed transcribing the 1865 indexes (originally made by the Cattaraugus county Museum), and we have now completed many towns for 1892 (also originally made by the Museum). We are hoping more volunteers can join us to complete indexes for the rest of the towns for 1892. Please contact me at LGG(at)interaccess.com if you are available to retype surnames and census page numbers from the original typewritten index. Your help will be much appreciated. I found William John Osterstuck's WWI draft registration dated June 5, 1918. On the card he names the person to notify as Frank John Osterstuck. This suggests that he had not yet married Clara because usually the spouse would be named as the person to notify. You might want to search for a marriage license application for the marriage of Clara to William between June 1918 and 1920 census. Most marriage license applications require a declaration of prior marriages and how they ended. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
