    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: WilliamEWatson42 Surnames: COFFEY, DOWNS, GARVEY, MCCORMICK, MAGRATH, MCGRATH, or MCGRAW Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/6721.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: John DOWNS, died March 28, 1898 - Mount Street, Corry, Erie Co., PA Thanks to the Aug 14, 2004 message window posting by LGG50, I have begun to unravel the mystery of Mr. DOWNS, husband of Mrs. Katherine (GARVEY) DOWNS of Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania. John left a wife & four children: (1) Frank L. DOWNS, born Nov 1886, died 21 Aug 1907 in Corry, Erie, PA, un-married. (2) Mary L. "Mayme" DOWNS, born Feb 1889, remained un-married (1945 - her aunt, Ellen (GARVEY) COFFEY's obituary). (3) Joseph J. DOWNS, born 20 Apr 1890, died Mar 1972 while residing in Pittsburgh, PA He married Ida, born 31 Mar 1890, died Feb 1978 while residing in Pittsburgh, PA. They had no children listed up into the 1930 census. (4) Lillian E. DOWNS, born Sep 1892, died before 1930 (her mother's obituary). The family is found in the 1861 Ottawa, Ontario, Canada census: Michael MAGRATH, born 1821 in Ireland Mary MAGRATH, born 1826 in Ireland John DOWNS, born 1855 in Canada East Mary DOWNS, born 1856 in Canada East Ellen MCCORMICK, born 1805 in Ireland My assumptions are: (1) John's mother remarried prior to 1861, his natural father was either deceased or divorced. (2) Ellen MCCORMICK is John's grandmother, his mother's mother. This family is listed again in the 1870 US Census in Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania: Michael MCGRAW born (1810 sic age 10y too old) IRE,IRE,IRE Mary MCGRAW born (1811 sic age 10y too old) IRE,IRE,IRE John DOWNS, born 1855 CAN,IRE,IRE, RR brakeman Mary DOWNS, born 1856 CAN,IRE,IRE Thomas MCGRAW born 1864 CAN,IRE,IRE In the 1880 US Census in Corry, Erie County, Pennsylvania: John DOWN, born 1856 (PA sic, should read Canada), bpb. Ireland, RR conductor Thos MCGRAW, born 1860 (PA sic, should read Canada), bpb. not given, RR brakeman In the 1880 US Census in Titusville, Crawford County, Pennsylvania: Mary DOWNES, born 1856 Can, bpb.Ire, single, servant for the Robert MCKNIGHT family. I haven't yet located the remainder of the family in 1880. John's 1898 obituary list a sister. Mrs. J. DONAHUE, of North Olean, this has to be his sister Mary who is listed in the 1900 Olean, Cattaraugus County, New York census as Mary DONAHOE, b. Jan 1858 - Canada, em. 1870, bpb. Ireland, widowed, 5 ch./ 4 survive. Only three un-marred daughters are listed with her: (1) Josie DONAHOE, dau, b. May 1883 - NY, fb. IRE, mb. CAN (2) Catherine DONAHOE, dau, b. Feb 1886 - NY, fb. IRE, mb. CAN (3) Nellie DONAHOE, dau, Dec 1893 - NY, fb. IRE, mb. CAN The 1898 obituary also mentions an un-named brother and sister who reside in Rochester, N.Y., this has to be Thomas MAGRATH, MCGRATH, or MCGRAW and his sister whose first name I don't know yet and born after 1870. I have noted in other postings that the MAGRATH, MCGRATH, & MCGRAW name variations provide other researchers with some confusion, I am hoping that this posting may help those as well as prompt others to weigh in on my information, thank you. 1. [NYCATTAR] PRINCE family 101st reunion
    2. Jonathan PRINCE married twice, first Polly ELY, then Catherine HITCHCOCK of Otto, NY. Polly and Jonathan had eight children, Jonathan and Catherine had twelve, for a total of twenty children! Common family names include PRINCE, MILK(S), MOSHER and many, many more! Many PRINCE descendants still live in Cattaraugus County, please help spread the word, or at least have them contact me to exchange genealogy information. Thanks! Annette The second century of family reunions has begun! Attention all descendants of Job Prince (1750-1827) and Rhoda Kibbe (1770-1831). This year’s reunion is August 15, 2009 at the Little Valley Riding Club! Job, a Revolutionary War Veteran, had ten children. At least eight of them have confirmed descendants. We are currently seeking all descendants for attendance at this year’s reunion! We need your help so spread the word! At least 8 of the 10 children spent time in Cattaraugus County! Son Jonathan was one of the first settlers in the county. Latest and Greatest Information:           We have a website, www.princereunion.com. It needs attention from someone who knows how to design webpages! Interested? Contact Tom or Annette through the webpage.           The latest on “the book.” Jane and several cousins have a rough draft of the book and are currently diligently editing the book. Updated information this year is a NECESSITY! Please make sure you send0Ainformation if you can not attend. A prototype will be available at the reunion for your perusal and editing!           The debate: Living people, to include or to not include? The choice is up to you! I had originally thought to limit the book to only through Job’s great grandchildren, as I know that entire generation is deceased, but many of you want more than that. The choice is up to you. Should the names of people who are living be included? Other information such as dates will not be included. Make your opinion known!           The Little Valley Riding Club has graciously agreed to allow camping, both in tents and RV’s. There are no hook ups available, but electric will be available for a fee. Contact Bonnie at bhwina@yahoo.com for reservations or more information.   This year’s Agenda   10 am – doors open. Ann and Louis will be there early to meet and great everyone! Be sure to stop by and say hi! We will have a registration table set up again. Be sure to stop by before you leave.   11 am – Ceremonial setting of Catherine Hitchcock Prince’s replacement stone that was destroyed two years ago at Milk’s cemetery, just a short drive from LVRC.   1 pm – Brief meeting followed immediately by our famous Potluck dinner! Baked Chicken, coffee and tea will be provided.   Immedia tely following dinner: Back by popular demand! The mystery bag will be at the auction! Please bring something to be auctioned off. Will the big prize again be tickets to Darien Lake or have those devious fiends come up with a different big prize to hide in the mystery bag??? I know and I’m not telling! mwahhahhahaa   New this year: 50/50 raffle. Tickets are $1 each, 3 for $2 and an arm’s length for $10. Proceeds from the 50/50 will go for payment of Catherine’s new headstone and cemetery maintenance. Drawing will be immediately after the auction. Winner needs to be present to win.   Now for the nitty gritty! What to bring:           1. Updated family information, specifically names, date and place of birth, marriage, divorce, death as applicable. Hey, I need accurate information for the book!           2. Something for the auction. It doesn’t have to be big or fancy, just something. Some things will be auctioned individually; some will be put in the bag.           3. A stamped, self addressed envelope. With well over 100 people on the current mailing list, we spend several hundred dollars a year on postage.           4. A dish to pass. Hey, we ALL love to eat!           5. Your own drink, and table service. Optional: =C 2         Table Clothes           Talent           Comfortable chairs   Questions? Concerns? Comments? Contact Bonnie at  email bhwina@yahoo.com or Annette at fredandjp@aol.com.   This year’s committee:           Bonnie and Art Hall – hosts           Annette and Jim Blanchard – co-hosts           Margie and Tom Schaefer – website hosts           Ann Spencer and Louie Howard Milk – early greeters           Jane and Merrill Allen – a font of knowledge and support           Hoyt and Elaine Prince – another font of knowledge and support           Polly and Henry Wilcox - supporters
