Author: cbarber32 Surnames: Phillips/Dean Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/10805/mb.ashx Message Board Post: HI folks I am looking for info on a Phillips family - hopefully someone will recognize them. Daniel Phillips b. 1837 in NY prob around Farmersville - was the son of Daniel and Polly Lafferty Phillips. He married Caroline Eliza Dean (daughter of Paul and Eliza Dean) around 1855. 1860 and 1865 census shows them living in Carrolton. By 1865 they had two sons - Elmer b. 1858 and Joseph b. 1861 or so. I can not find a reasonable match to this family anywhere after 1865. If anyone knows what happen to them or where they went, please contact me. Email is cbarber@brockwaytv.com. Thanks so much! 1. [NYCATTAR] Samuel Green of Thetford VT is not the Samuel F Green who lived in Cattaraugus County
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Nwinklepleck1 Surnames: Classification: biography Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/10800/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Samuel Green of Thetford Vermont, husband of Lavina Sackett (1781-1805), moved to Cornish, Sullivan, New Hampshire before 1820. He died there on Aug 23, 1866. He is NOT the Samuel Green who moved to Cattaraugus County, New York. See "History of the town of Cornish, New Hampshire, with genealogical record, 1763-1910" by William Henry Child. Samuel Green of Thetford married: 1. Lavina Sackett daughter of William Sackett and Eunice Beeman in 1800. (per Sackett Genealogy) 2. Sukey (Susan) Parmenter in 1807 in Dana, Worcester, Massachusetts. (Per Vital Records of Dana Massachusetts) She died in Cornish, Sullivan, New Hampshire in 1828. (Per History of Cornish) 3. Olive Hall in 1830. Olive Hall (1782-1866) was the daughter of David Hall and Olive Smead. (Per History of Cornish) History of the town of Cornish, New Hampshire, with genealogical record, 1763-1910 lists the children of Samuel Green as: 1. Olive Green (1800-1876) History of Cornish says "married a Mr. Horton, went West. Lived and died there." This is the Olive Green who married David Holton. Above volume calls her the daughter of Susan (Sukey), wife of Samuel Green, but given her birthdate she is clearly the daughter of Lavina Sackett. 2. Eliza Green (1802-1862) History of Cornish says " married a Mr. Newcomb. Lived and died. in Eden, Vt." This would be the Eliza Green who married Isaac Newcomb. It should be noted that among her children are Caroline Green Newcomb presumably named for her half-sister and Olive Hall Newcomb, presumably named for her stepmother. Again, History of Cornish calls her the daughter of Susan (Sukey) but she is, from her birthdate, the daughter of Lavina Sackett as the Newcomb Genealogy says. ("Genealogical memoir of the Newcomb family" by John Bearse Newcomb) 3. Charles H Green (1809-1863) History of Cornish says "b. Dec. 21, 1809; m. Jan. 25, 1839, Sarah Eaton Coburn of Cornish, dau. of Simon and Ruth (Eaton) Coburn, b. April 22, 1812, and d. May 24, 1888, at Boston, Mass. He was a Baptist clergymen, successful and dearly beloved in all his pastorates, which were Parsonsfield, Me., South Windham and Hyde Park, Vt., and Meriden, where he d. May 12, 1863" Children of Charles H Green and Sarah Coburn: 1.Adelaide S., b. April 26, 1840; m. May 14, 1864, George D. Frost then of Meriden, but afterwards of Washington, D. C. 2. Charles W., b. Aug. 23, 1845; d. May 10, 1846. 3. Jane Olive, b. Dec. 17, 1847; m. March 5, 1872, James A. Cowles. Live in Claremont. One child, a dau. 4. Clara A., b. Aug. 15, 1849; m. Feb. 17, 1870, Prof. S. W. Cole of Boston, a teacher in the Boston Conservatory of Music. 4. Caroline A.Green (1814-1557) History of Cornish says "b. June 18, 1814; m. Nov. 9, 1835, Sylvester N. Tracy. Three children. She d. March 6, 1857." 5. Samuel Munroe Green (1822-1896) History of Cornish says " b. , 1822; m. , Harriet Blaisdill of Norwich, Vt., b. , 1835, and d. May 6, 1901, aged 76. Lived several years in Johnson, Vt., also in Meriden and Cornish. He was a tailor and worked at his trade in these places. They had no children. He d. in Cornish May 9, 1896." About Samuel Green the History of Cornish says "A farmer, lived in the north part of the town. He built the brick house where he lived and d. He was a Baptist, a Free Mason, a man of unquestionable integrity and honor." Although the History of Cornish doesn't mention Lavina Sackett as the first wife of Samuel Green it is clearly the same man based on the information provided separately by the descendants of Eliza Green Newcomb and Olive Green Holton. Samuel Green is enumerated in the Cornish NH census in 1820, 1830 (indexed Grun), 1840, 1850 and 1860. He is a different Samuel Green than the Samuel F Green who lived in Cattaraugus County. And Samuel Green of Thetford Vt and Cornish NH is not the father of Heman Green (1801-1858) and Samuel Green (1803-1850) of Cattaraugus County.
