The area was a wilderness around that timeframe. County and township boundaries changed a lot from 1800-1850. Secondary sources would be to look for bible records, military or pension records. I found my g-g grandfather's 1854 marriage certificate in the civil war pension files after his widow filed a claim after his death. There was no obit for this man. I tried using just his last name, or just his first name, or just his wife's first name, since it's unusual. Nothing for that year. However, years later, when his son of the same name was in his 80s, there were articles about him and his family on two of his birthdays. I think there was also a photo of Perry Jr., at 87. Also, back in the 1800s there were some notices involving property transactions made by Arminda. The spelling of the last name varied. A few years ago, someone was looking for an article known to be in a particular Olean newspaper, and it wasn't coming up in the indexes. It turned out that the article had appeared in some sort of supplement, which these paid services had not included in their indexing. If you do have someone in Olean check, that may be a possibility. If you'd like me to, I can relay the details in the a! rticles I was able to find on Perry Junior. Virginia H. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have access to a newspaper index, but I am only finding articles about his son with the same name, celebrating his birthday in 1935 and again in 1938. Both have family information. There are also references to Arminda buying and selling property in the 1880s. The last name was spelled in various ways. Do you have an exact date of death from the references you've seen? Now, I've started to search in all the other counties where my GG Grandfather Benjamin Franklin Marlett and his father, Abraham, lived to make sure that a posting appears regarding the various lineages of the family in case this information is helpful.Census Records track our Marlett (Marlette) family in Penfield Ontario NY, Napoli Cattaraugus NY, Monroe County NY, Brown County IN, Linn County KS, Bourbon County KS, Vernon County MO, Bates County MO, Cherokee County KS. Original 12/13/2009 Message Posted to Chautauqua County NY: After numerous attempts to try to get some answers about the B.F. (Benjamin Franklin Marlett) NY who married Fidelia Arnold and my B.F. Marlett who married Arena Snider/Snider in Kansas, I finally made contact with a direct decendant of Marlett/Arnold who was willing to consider that possibly our Benjamin Franklin Marlett's just may be the same person. After a number of emails Joan Marlett Allen and I concluded that we could not and had not, nor would probably ever be able to prove or disprove the possibility through paper documents that may or may not still exist...therefore we decided to try to bust the "wall" by volunteering eligible male family members for a Paternal Lineage Test (Y-Chromosome 33)to give us a feasibility determination. In late October 2007, we sent in to Ancestry.com tests from Lawrence Marlett (brother to Joan Marlett Allen and direct male descendant of B.F. Marlett and Fidelia Arnold) and Walter Marlett (my first cousin and direct male descendant of B.F. Marlett and Arena Snider/Snyder). In November 2007 we received the results of the test, showing that Lawrence and Walter matched 100% of 33 markers. The comparison is never all conclusive, the reports received notes that at a 50% probability Lawrence and Walter would be related within 2 generations within 50 years, implying that John Barton Marlett and Royal Norman Marlett would be half-brothers and B.F. Marlett would be the common ancestor. I don't really understand exactly what this means, but based on what we've read, Joan and I felt that the DNA test provided the probability and the feasibility that yes, our Benjamin Franklin Marlett was indeed the same person. I'm attaching copies of the results which I did a composit on (but if this is too small, I'd be happy to provide the originals). If someone out there can help us further document or explain this or tell us what else we need to do, we'd be most appreciative. Also, I have a copy of the family portrait of Benjamin Franklin Marlett that was passed down after Arena Marlett died in 1937 (I gave the original portrait to Walter since you would not beleive how much he looks like B.F.). I also have pictures of my GG Grandfather John Barton Marlett. And, as a promise to my Granny Marlett, I've spent the last ten years updating our Marlett Lineage which I'd be happy to also share. I hadn't realized that we had not sent a notice to the various Rootweb Boards back in 2008 until this evening when I was reviewing my Marlett files, so thought I should at least put this out there for other Marlett researchers. Please understand that I am only a Family History researcher, but I do document my resources, I have a Marlett/Durler TREE on ancestry, and I do have a lot of paper documents, family records, as well as family stories from interviews with my Granny as well as my Great (Grand?) Aunt Dencie Rakes Salmans who is also directly related to Mary Lydia "Grangy" Marlett, daughter of B.F. Marlett and Arena Snider. I've also made contact with a number of other descendants of Royal Normal Marlett and have provided them copies of the DNA Test. Anyway...again, if someone out there can help us know what to do with this DNA information, I'd be grateful. AND I'd very much appreciate hearing from any other family members. I especially would like to find out when Fidelia Arnold died and where she is buried. I'm done a lot of research on her parents (Thomas Arnold and Rebekah LaDow), siblings, and children...but haven't found out what happened to her. Lastly, for those that would like to know the lineage of our DNA participants below is their lineage: Lawrence Marlett's Lineage is; Parents LeRoy Norman Marlett and Winifred Esther Shields - Grandparents Frank Henry Marlett and Electa Olive Mason - Great Grandparents Royal Norman Marlett and Ella Jane Williams - Great-Great Grandparents Benjamin Franklin Marlett and Fidelia Arnold. Walter Marlett's Lineage is; Parents James Alton Marlett and Emma Edith Hagerman - Grandparents James Vernal/Vurnel Marlett and Della Kolita Salmans - Great Grandparents John Barton Marlett and Margaret Lucinda Moore - Great-Great Grandparents Benjamin Franklin Marlett and Arena Snider/Snyder. My name is Sharen Durler-Pflughoeft Direct email is Pflughoeft@aol.com my lineage is: Sharen, daughter of John Jacob Durler Jr and Margaret Lillian Marlett, dau of Della Kolita Salmans and James Vurnel Marlett, son of Margaret Lucinda Moore and John Barton Marlett, son of Arena Snider/Snyder and Benjamin Franklin Marlett, son of Samantha Unknown and Abraham Marlett, son of Mercy Dunn and Peter Marlett (Note this lineage was written by my Grandmother, Della Kolita Salmans Marlett in 1958 and given to me on my 10th birthday).
