Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RRB.2ACE/5882.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you so much for looking in the Olean census for me, Sid!!! I have ordered the 1855 State Census for Catt. Co. This will save me from having to look in Olean itself. When di Olean become a city? If you have time to look at land records, that would be wonderful. Nathan is said to have died in or near Olean, as a result of a doctor's error after he broke his leg....opiate improperly administered during the setting of the leg. The family left Washington Co., ME on Oct. 9, 1854 and are on the 1860 census in Potter Co., PA (without Nathan, of course). Might there be a death record in Catt. Co.? He had 13 living children at the time - oldest was Lemuel, born in 1832; then Levi, Nathan A., Leah, Ichabod, Jotham Sewell, Hannah, John, Caroline, Sheldon Gray, Achsah, Henry C., & Elma (born in 1854)

From your posting it would seem very possible Nathan was in one of the many small towns around Olean which was a major hub in this area at that time. Unfortunately I don't have an index to the whole county. At least you now know he wasn't in Olean at the time. There are good land and probate records for this county in Little Valley, NY and I'll take a look the next time I get over which may be a few weeks. 2. Ginni L. Morey
    3. I have been reading the minutes of the General Session court records and have found some very interesting cases that I would like to find more information. The minutes are similar to a docket. They do not actually list what happens in the case only the disposition. Does anyone know where I might find the actual court cases? The time frame is 1840's. I would really appreciate any suggestions that anyone would have as one of the cases involves removing a Justice of the Peace and his son-in-law is testifying against him. There must be a story there. --------------------------------------------- Ginni Morey from Campbell California web page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~reinwald/ mailto:glmorey@earthlink.net
