Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RRB.2ACE/1363.1351.1360.2650.1 Message Board Post: Hello Cousin, I also descend from Arza and Ann (Wood) Searl(e). I believe that Arza Searle came to Cattaraugus county in 1824. His brother Isaac Searle I think came the year before him with his sister Phoebe Searle (B: 1791), her husband was Eleazar Densmore, and with his brother Jacob Searle (B: 1793), who moved to Belfast, NY after settling in Catt. Co. I think that their sister Pamela Searle, married to John Reynolds came in 1823 too. I think that when their parents Gideon Searle Jr, and his second wife Lucy Osgood came, they brought the rest of the younger kids, Daniel, Hannah, Lucy, and Emily with them. I think they lived with the older son Isaac when they first came.

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RRB.2ACE/5863.1 Message Board Post: My family and I camp all summer weekends on the Allegany Resevoir (Kinzua Dam). Onoville is one of the nearby towns, actually situated near the northwest end of the resevoir. I do not know of any nearby catholic churches. I see you were looking for late 1800 time frame. In the mid 1900's, the Allegeny river was dammed by the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, flooding the valley. Some towns were evacuated and flooded. Maybe this is where your church went......under water. All of the land surrounding the NY state portion of the resevoir is owned either by NY state or the Seneca nation of Indians now. You should contact Salamanca NY historian, or even the town of Onoville, NY, or Red House NY, or Quaker Run, NY. Hope this helps.

    1. [NYCATTAR] Ferguson/Fox Families, Cattaraugus County, 1800's
    2. Hi List! I'm a new subscriber.....I am interested in the Fox and Ferguson Families listed in the 1865 Town of Leon Census. The Ferguson Family is also listed in the town of New Albion on the 1855 census index. I am specifically interested in John, William, and Thomas Fox--immigrants from Ireland. The Ferguson family has a John Ferguson born about 1862 in NY or Scotland. These families have been my "brickwalls" so if anyone can help me out--I would be eternally grateful! Thanks! 2. The Lee Family
    3. From "A Guide to Burial Sites, Cemeteries & Random Stones in Cattaraugus County, New York" by Marlynn McNallie Olson: Peth Cemetery - Destroyed, site is visible from the road, in Great Valley, east side of Route 219. COMMENTS: "Stones were removed by a former owner, in the late 1920s to mid 1930s. Some were piled up near the barn (and still are there), others became sidewalk blocks and rip rap on the creek banks. The bodies were not removed. Names of some of those who rest there include: Abbott, Winsors, Turner and Talbott." There is a photograph in the book of the stones "piled up like cordwood" and it's a very distressing site. For further information I would suggest that you contact: Cattaraugus County Historical Museum Evelyn Penman, County Historian 302 Court Street Little Valley, New York 14755 716/938.9111, X2440 email: evelpe@lv.co.cattaraugus.ny.us AND/OR Town of Great Valley Roberta Stone, Historian P.O.
