    1. [NYCATTAR] Pine Hill and Holy Cross Cemeteries, Gowanda, NY
    2. Hi Everyone- I am looking for information on Pine Hill and Holy Cross cemeteries in Gowanda. I am looking for information on John Ferguson b. August 1861 (Scotland?) d. Feb. 7, 1903 in Gowanda and is buried in Pine Hill Cemetery. John's daughter Anna Ferguson b. 1-9-1900 Gowanda d. 9-3-1900 and is buried at Holy Cross Cemetery, Gowanda. Can anyone do a look up for me? If not, does anyone know who to contact to find out about these records? I am also looking for any information on the Catholic Diocese in the Dayton/Leon/New Albion area, does anyone know how far back the Diocese keep records? I have a marriage of John Ferguson to Julia Fox m.1898 in St. Paul's of the Cross Catholic church in Dayton, I have talked to the town historian and she informed me that all records before 1918 for the Town of Dayton were destroyed in a bindery fire-this would include the marriage certificate of John and Julia. Dayton had the only Catholic congregation in the area (organized in 1862) and the only Catholic Cemetery (St. Paul's of the Cross). This is my long time "brick wall"-----I would appreciate any info/advice. Thanks! Michelle

I certainly think that is a real possibility, but when I discovered how many Whipples there actually were in that area and at that time then I decided I should not jump to conclusions. I would love to know what information you have on the relationship of Philip, Zadock and Nathan and anything you might have on their parents. I do have information on a number of Philip's descendants. Feel free to e-mail me at whipp2ss@msn.com. Thank you for your reply. Steve Whipple

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RRB.2ACE/5915.1 Message Board Post: It depends on how long ago that person died. Since the 1960s or so, the State has buried psychiatric patients in the newer cemetery on US Route 62, just north of the Gowanda village line next to the Gowanda Ford dealership. The old State Hospital cemetery is off Wheater Road in Collins, but your chances of finding a headstone are slim. The old cemetery just had markers with a number on them. If you knew the date of death, you might be able to find a death certificate filed at the Collins town hall.

It would be most interesting to exchange history with you. May I ask which family member are you a decendent of ? Waiting to hear from you. Beverly

Mary www.enchantedmountains.com ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda L McGuinness To: NYCATTAR-L@rootsweb.com Sent: Monday, August 26, 2002 7:25 PM Subject: [NYCATTAR] Chestnut Hill Cemetery Query Hello List: I would like to visit Chestnut Hill Cemetery to find the grave site of my ggrandmother, Cornelia A. ELIK nee Borchardt (first husband: Fred Fitscher) I found her listed on the Rootsweb list, but I didn't see her listed on the Chestnut Hill Cemetery List from Olean Library. I was hoping to find the Section and lot. The map of the cemetery shows that is very large. She may be buried near the LAMB family. But that is just a guess. Her sister, Edna H. Lamb is supposed to be buried there too and I didn't see her name either. This information was from the two obits of these sisters. Is there an office at the Cemetery? I would appreciate any help. I believe he is a brother to Zadock and Nathan Whipple. I have been searching for this family for quite a while and have had contact with a Helen in Cattaragus Co., NY and have done alot of research. I did not know that Phillip was in Wisconsin, but a granddaughter of Zadock's, Minnie Imogene Whipple married a John Henry Eddy and they are my great grandparents. I do have alot of information on the family and would be willing to share it, if this is the same family. Please contact me at v.welter@worldnet.att.net and we can exchange information if the family fits. The Helen I have had contact with is a relative of Phillip and she is sending me the information on his family. Thanks for your time and consideration on this issue. Regards, Vickie
