Please disregard the paragraph in my last post that starts with ‘Limburg’ and read the following instead. Limburg, Nassau and Frankfort are all cities in the province of Hesse-Nassau, Germany. But Ottilla was probably stating cities and Adam was probably stating provinces. So your G-G-grandmother, Ottilla was probably born around 1831 in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. Your G-G-grandfather Adam was probably born around 1826 in Limburg, Nassau, Germany. When you’re researching, both towns will probably be shown as being in the combined province of Hesse-Nassau. They probably met and married in Frankfurt, Hesse-Nassau, Germany, which is why neither one remembered where the other one was born. I checked both sites where I pay for Immigration info and a couple CD’s that I have, but none of them had info on Adam and Ottilla. I’ve listed four links for German genealogy. At least the first two have links to passenger lists. You may have to go to a library. http://www.hamburg.de/LinkToYourRoots/english/start.htm http://home.att.net/~wee-monster/ http://www.genealogienetz.de/genealogy.html http://www.rootsweb.com/~rwguide/lesson26.htm Happy Hunting Bobbi

The source I use is at my library: A Commercial Atlas. It shows the townships within the county. I have copied the part of the state I want, even if the book is large. Then I enlarge the copy. Being at most libraries, if I have a question and don't have the map with me, I just look at the atlas then have and get my needed information. Maybe even make a copy to work with that day. Susanne

I have been told from my father that we are a descendants of two brothers who immigrated from "Prussia to avoid the war". I do not think it is Freidrich because it was reported that his children took on the spelling Recob. So I am eager to find Johann's Ancestry. There is about a hundred year gap between these immigrant brothers, and my identifiable ancestors. In 1880 Albert John Rehkopf married Abigale (Nellie) Griffith in Brighton, Washington Iowa. They are my great grandparents. I look forward to hearing from you and learning more. Thanks for the info you have posted so far. Please fill me in about your Rehkopf connections. Lynda Rehkopf Hart

Hi List, Is there a marriage index for the 1840s for Catt. Co.? Sure would be great if there was! Any tips appreciated. Best wishes, Debbie
