    1. [NYCATTAR] RE:Power(s) 1847 Quebec ??
    2. Norman Hamilton
    3. Hi ...Anyone on this list looking for a Patrick Power(s) born in Ireland, I guess may be 1819?? married Mary Ann Oneil on 9 Sept.1848 in the Church of Notre-Dame-de-Quebec in Quebec city. Mary Ann Oneil was born in Quebec her parents were born in Ireland. After their marriage they lived in St.Roch,12 Park Lane,Quebec and attended St Patrick's R.C.Church. Children were Michael E Power(s) born 1851?, William R.Power(s) born 1852-54?, (may have been a cousin not sure yet) both came to Buffalo,NY around 1869 and 1871, Ellen Born 1853?, Margaret born 1859?, Patrick born 1861? died 1/1864 Mary Power(s) died on18 April 1871. Patrick married Mary Julie Buckingham in the parish of St.Roch,Quebec on 7 Sept. 1872 Mary's parents were Owen O'Neil and Margaret Moran, born in Ireland Patrick's parents were Michael Power(s) and Honoria Hassett, born in Ireland Haven't been able to trace Patrick or 2nd wife Mary Buckingham or siblings Margaret, Ellen, Patrick after 1871 Canadian census.Sibling Michael my gr-grand father came to Buffalo,NY in 1869 died 8/1924. Not sure if William was his brother or cousin, for awhile was almost sure he was his brother.William came to Buffalo,NY about 1871-72 died 1907 married to Mary Gottleman about 20 July 1881. They had 8 kids. Their first daughter Margaret Power was my God-Mother. William's parents may be Robert Power and Mary Morne? The last info I can find of Patrick Power is 1881 Canadian census of a Patrick Power 59 yrs old in the Palais Ward of Quebec City may have been a convent with numerous individuals. As with with all family research I'm not 100 % sure this is all correct. If any one is researching this same line I'd like to hear from you, and exchange info Thanks, Norm Hamilton hamilton50@adelphia.net

    1. [NYCATTAR] MOORE/BISHOP/CHASE/AUSTIN
    2. Charles Peckham
    3. I am researching the family of Oliver MOORE and his wife Judith PIXLEY of Freedom and Allegany Townships. I am interested in information on their daughter Florilla who married John C/E BISHOP, Emily who married 1) a CHASE and 2) a HOPPER, and Almira who married an AUSTIN. Florilla MOORE BISHOP md John BISHOP before 1852 they removed to Michigan about 1858 and John enlisted in the WI 16th Infantry Company A in 1861. Florilla and John had John born NY 1852, Romilia born NY 1855, Romain born MI 1857, Judith born MI 1859 and Ellsworth born MI 1861. Florilla returned to NY by 1865 after her husband died. Florilla is buried with her parents in the Protestant Cemetery in Allegany having died in 1890. Emily MOORE/CHASE/HOPPER was a widow in 1855 and by 1860 had remarried and was apparently a widow again. She moved from Freedom to Allegany with her parents and sisters between 1865 and 1870. I have found her still living in Allegany in 1880. I have no record of death. Emily had a son Hiram CHASE born 1852 that I have no record of after 1870. Almira MOORE/AUSTIN is living with her parents in Freedom and has an 8 year old daughter Almina. I lose track of Almira after the 1860 census. Anyone else out there working any of these lines? Would there be any available marriage records for Freedom from say 1851 to 1855 that are accessible? Any help appreciated. Ginger cpeckham@comcast.net

    3. Thanks to Richard for the Roots Web sites, however, I have gotten my information from those sites and others and now need cemetery addresses and contact info. I would like to request the actual burial records. Not too long ago, another list member shared such information from a book they have, "Cemeteries of Cattaraugus County" I believe. If someone can provide me with addresses for the three cemeteries I mention in my original message below or any other suggestions for attaining this information, I would be grateful. Thanks, Barb Barbara Santora wrote: > I have found reference to family members buried at St. Bonaventure > Cemetery and Allegany Protestant Cemetery in Allegany, as well as > Ellicott St. Catholic Cemetery in the town of Great Valley. 1. Re: [NYCATTAR] Horseshoe Cemetary
    2. The Lee Family
    3. From "A Guide to Burial Sites, Cemeteries & Random Stones in Cattaraugus County, New York" by Marlynn McNallie Olson (1991, 1996): Popular Name: Horseshoe Cemetery General State of Repair: Good Visible from the Road: No In the town of: Great Valley Lot: Reservation Town: 2 Range: 6 Comments: Turn southwest (tiny sign at the road edge). This cemetery is hidden, you go across the Great Valley/ Carrollton town line, turn south at the reference marker, go straight south as far as you can, and walk back and to the west. toward Great Valley, and you will come on the cemetery, quite a ways back. At the time the Hopewell Mounded opening in 1949 Supervisor Redeye stated there was a large mound at Horseshoe Bend. I don't believe this cemetery is connected to the "mounds" Supervisor Redeye was referring to in his comments. It is too far south and away from "Horseshoe Bend." There are, however, in addition to local - current burials 3 "out of area" relocations here, including an unknown prehistoric Iroquoian male excavation from Kittanning, Pennsylvania area, that is approximately 600 years old. There are unknown Erie tribe Indians that were reburied in July 1987, and unknown Susquehannock tribe burials dated July 1986. About the Hopewell Mound, is the following (from the same publication): Popular Name: Hopewell Mount/Chief Daniel Killbuck General State of Repair: Fair Visible from the Road: No In the town of: Great Valley, on the west side of School Street near the railroad tracks Lot: Reservation Town: 2 Range: 6 Comments: These sites are behind 3659 School Street. The Hopewell Mound dates back to 1100 A.D. Chief Daniel Killbuck's site dates back to the late 1700s. The Hopewell site is 200' behind the house. Chief Killbuck's site is further west, toward the creek edge. There is now (1993) an out building back there and the 1100 A.D. site is about 25' in front of that building. Dan Parnell purchased the land in 1952 from Lyman Blackmon. Mr. Blackmon had owned the property at the time the Hopewell site was excavated by 4 men from the University of Toronto, in June of 1949. The excavation was supervised by an Indian from Shongo, named Sherman Redeye. It was excavated and explored with the greatest of care. The finishing and final removal was done with a pen knife, spoon and whisk broom. About 7 bodies were found and they were buried "bundled," however one body was buried in the normal way. This information comes from writings by former Great Valley historian Mildred Slade Patterson, mother of Roberta Patterson Stone, the present historian, who provided me with her mom's comments on the excavation. The brief story concerning this in the Salamanca Republican Press says "9 skeletons" were found. Maureen M.
