I am looking for any Bartlett, Wilder or Hayford lines buried in Freedom. I have a land record indicating that Mr. Wilder Bartlett and about 15 others purchased a 1/2 acre plot of land June 28, 1831, in Freedom to be used solely for a burying ground. The land apparently adjoined an earlier "old burying ground". The land was purchased from Rufus Metcalf. Following is what I think I know about this couple. I would be most interested in learning more about this family and correcting any errors I may have, as well as filling in any part of the family structure. Alfred Reed, born 7 Mar 1838 in Ellicottville, NY; died 19 Apr 1916 in Franklin, Venango Co. PA. He married (1) in 1865 in East Randolph, NY, and later divorced Laura Lousia Hovey, who was born 6 Mar 1848; died 28 Apr 1910. She was the daughter of Ziba M. Hovey and Charlotte Horth. Alfred married (2) on 21 Feb 1898 in Jamestown, NY Sarah S. Cook, who born 6 Mar 1847 in East Lackawanick, Mercer County, PA, the daughter of Soloman Cook and Mary (---) . Alfred and Laura lived as a married couple for about five years and were then divorced in the Supreme Court of Cattaraugus County on June 9, 1877. The court judgment stated in part; " it shall be lawful for the said plaintiff Laura L. Reed to marry again as though the said defendant Alfred Reed was actually dead, but it shall not be lawful for the said defendant Alfred Reed to marry again until the said plaintiff Laura L. Reed be actually dead". Laura who was also given custody of the girls did remarry William Wyatt, (1859-1930). Alfred, despite the court order did remarry to Sarah Cook, daughter of Soloman and Mary Cook on February 21, 1898 in Jamestown, NY and soon after relocated to Franklin, Pa. Children of Alfred Reed and Laura Lousia Hovey were as follows: Carry B. Reed, born 26 May 1866 in East Randolph, NY. Lottie L. Reed, born 9 Jun 1868 in East Randolph, NY; died Oct 1949 in Ripley, NY. She married George Milan Bowen . Children of Lottie L. Reed and George Milan Bowen were as follows: Floyd Edison Bowen, born 10 Oct 1890. NOTE: Attempts to obtain the Cattaraugus County Court records were unsuccessful as they are sealed until the principals have been dead for 100 years. The records are found on J 11, 897, reel #114.

Sibyl Cornell was born (in March 1900) and raised in Argyle, Washington County NY; the daughter of Dewey and Julia (Fowler) Cornell. At some point, she may have moved in with her aunt and uncle, Seymour and Ruby (Fowler) Martindale of Dayton (ca 1910-1950 period). Later, Sibyl moved back to the Argyle area, and was a nurse at Glens Falls Hospital (Warren Co.) up to the time of her death, tragically of drowning on Aug. 10, 1926. She was only 26 years old. Sibyl's obituary mentions that she graduated from "Great Valley High School", possibly in 1918 (the 1917 to 1919 period). Does anyone have any records of a Great Valley Hugh School? I noticed from Cattaraugus County information that there is no such high school today. I am ultimately trying to find a photograph of Sibyl (my mom's aunt) as none are known by my family to exist. Sibyl's uncle Seymour Martindale is listed in info that I have as being a Supervisor of the Town of Great Valley, ca 1940s? (I don't know the exact time frame). I am related to Ruby (Fowler) Martindale and Sibyl Cornell through our common ancestors, David Doane Fowler and his wife Abbie (Niles) Fowler. I would love to hear from anyone who might have information on the people I have described. Thank you Mike Huggins Irvine, CA
I am descended from James and Esther (Hutchins) Whiting who moved from Lovell, Oxford County, Maine to Yorkshire at least by 1850, where I find them in the census. They had at least the following Whiting children: Alvina b 1809 Maine Esther b 1811 Maine (married John Worden) Lydia b 1813 Maine James Jr. b 30 Nov 1824 New York James Whiting Sr. died in Yorkshire 30 Aug 1867; Esther (Hutchins) Whiting died 18 Jan 1872 Yorkshire; James Jr. died 30 Aug 1891 Yorkshire; Betsy Whiting, wife of James Jr. also died in Yorkshire. I am looking for other probable children of James and Esther (Hutchins) Whiting. They probably also lived in or near Yorkshire.
In the 1850 Census for Buffalo Township, Ogle County, Illinois: stamped page 38 enumerated 22 August 1850 Silas S. Kellogg 47 m farmer NY Laura " 42 f -- NY Jane " 20 f -- NY Lumas " 18 m farmer NY Peter " 16 m farmer NY Sarah " 14 f -- NY Chas. " 8 m -- NY Harry " 4 m -- NY Ann E. " 1 f -- Illinois Given the Census Date of 1 August 1850, Jane would be 20 given the birthdate you have. Assuming the age instructions were followed - which certainly isn't a given, Silas would have been born between 2 August 1802 and 1 August 1803. And Laura would have been born between 2 August 1807 and 1 August 1808.
