Possible brother is Elias Randal Dart b. 7/4/1843 in N.Y. Both leave N.Y and are found in Paulding Co. Ohio in 1860s and enter Civil war from there. Then move to SW Michigan area. Freeman's parents are not listed on his death certificate, but Elias' are. Elias also goes by the name John. Found a Curtis and Freeman Dart in Cattaragus Co. in 1840, but no James. Is there a 1845 N.Y. census for either county that would list wife's name and offspring? any help would be appreciated. Mary

They had 2 known sons, Calvin b. 1835 and William b. 1829. Calvin married Sally Aldrich in 1863. The 1855 NYS census index lists William ANDRUS in Ashford, Cattaraugus County, house #81 pg #10. Also listed is Jirah S. Aldrich house #150 pg #17. If these are the correct relatives, they are 3rd cousins. I would like to know more about this William Andrus if someone could be so kind. Can someone possibly look at the census for me and let me know if Hiram and Lucy are in one of these households as well? Thanks very much for any help you can offer. Patrick

Surnames: McCapes, McNull Classification: Biography Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/RRB.2ACE/5965 Message Board Post: Excerpt from History of Cattauragus County, New York RELIGIOUS SOCIETIES >From the data at hand, we conclude that the first society in town was organized by the Baptists. A preliminary meeting for the purpose was held in June 1825 at the house of Otis, Hitchcock, over which Darius Bowen presided. On the 15th of July 1825. THE PARTICULAR BAPTIST CHURCH OF RANDOLPH Was formally constituted at the house of Solomon Nichols. The members entering into the covenant were as follows: Timothy Torrance, Ralph Williams, Darius Brown, Otis Hitchcock, Solomon Nichols, J Brenninsthol, Stephen J. Davis, Josiah Nichols, Josiah Gilbert, Nancy McCapes, Lucy Ann Nichols, Zurina Torrance, Almira Bowen, Hannah Cook, Sally Williams, Matilda Hartman, Arevilla Russell, Amelia Nichols, Almira McNull, Katy Bush, Phebe Davis, Anna Davis and Eliza Booth. To this number were added at an early day, other members among them being Elmore G. Terry, John Shango, Calvin, Elmore, and Oliver Draper, Ira Case, Joseph A. Hamilton, Isaac Gifford, Joel Doolittle, Seymour Torrance, John Cook, Jonathan Follett, Alanson Marcy, Esek S. Gorsline, and Levi Howard. The ministers present when the church was formed were Rev. E. Viney and Jonathan Blake, the latter becoming the first pastor of the church. Joseph Brenninsthol was appointed the first deacon and clerk. The office of deacon has also been filled by Darius Bowen, H.H. Hull, and George McCapes. May 9, 1834 a meeting was held at the house of Elmore Draper to form a society to attend to the temporal affairs of the church. Trustees were chosen as follows: Ralph Williams, Samuel Price, Marvin Scudder, Oliver Draper, and Solomon Nichols. The propriety of building a meeting house was now strongly urged, but no decisive action was taken until ten years later. In 1845 the present house of worship was erected and consecrated in the fall of that year by Revs. B.C. Willoughby, W.B. Brooks, and Frederick Glenville. It is a frame, 36 by 54 feet and cost about $ 2,000. It was remodeled and beautified in 1874 and is now estimated worth $ 3,000. The controlling board of trustees is composed of Franklin Nichols, J.L. Sawle, Geo. McCapes, George Rogers, and H.H. Hall (Hull?). The church was very flourishing soon after its organization, but has also had seasons of declining interest resulting mainly from the many changes in pastoral office. The clergy have been Revs. Allen Smith, Levi Howard, Alonzo Frink, Benjamin Oviart, B.C. Willoughby, J. Howard, B. Brahman, A. Handy, D.F. Lockwood, J. Trowbridge, H.A. Conrad, G.W. Devell, and C.H. Woods. In early times E. Terry and Solomon Nichols sometimes filled the pulpit. There are at present 104 members. A flourishing Sabbath School, organized after 1840, is maintained. It has nearly 100 members.
Does anyone know where I might find Methodist Churck records for Yorkshire, Cattaraugus Co, NY? Time period I'm looking for is ca 1850-1875.
