He could have died, remarried, or moved elsewhere. No records can be found to verify any of these. I would like to know if David is related to any of the other Darlings in Cattaraugus county. He was probably born in the late 1790's. Any help would be appreciated, as I have been searching for him for 30 years. Thanks.
FIRST GENERATION. "Farmer's Genealogical Register," p. 162, says, "Thomas Jewell of Brantry (Braintree) bad sons, Joseph, b. 24th April, 1642; Nathaniel, b. 15th April, 1648; and several other children." The names of his daughters are unknown, and uncounted here. As one of the sons that lived to rear families received the honored name of his father, we shall place him at the head of the list, although he may have been the younger. By this arrangement the three sons will head three separate lines, and be numbered as follows. *2 Thomas, b. in Hingham, Mass. *3 Joseph, b. Apr. 24, 1642; d. Stow, Mass., time not known. *4 Nathaniel, b. Apr. 15, 1648; d. Plainfield, Ct., March, 1712. Line of Joseph. SECOND GENERATION. 3 JOSEPH JEWELL. Some have called his name John; but we think erroneously, for reasons such as the following, viz. John Jewell's name does not occur in any known records of that early date; and Farmer gives it as Joseph. The records of Stow date the birth of John's children from 1726 to 1732. This is hardly reconcilable with the idea that he was the son of Thomas who died in 1654; but it is perfectly consistent with the fact that John was the son of Joseph, and grandson of Thomas. There is a deed recorded at East Cambridge, Mass., bearing date July 17, 1694, whereby Richard Cheever of Boston, conveyed to Joseph Jewell of Sudbury, a piece of land and a corn mill thereon, situated in Sudbury. In another deed of Nov. 27, 1719, Joseph Jewell conveys his house, barn, mill and land, which he had bought of Cheever, to his son John. Joseph and Isabel both joined in the deed; by which John was to maintain them, and pay certain sums to his brothers. It appears that Joseph first lived in Charlestown, and kept the ferry between that place and Boston; that his son Joseph assisted him; that when about 50 he removed to Stow, and owned a grist mill, which went for a long time (up to 1815 at least) by the name of "Jewell's Mill." This old mill-site is now (1860) occupied by a Carpet Factory, and the stream is the dividing line between Sudbury and Stow. Joseph m. Martha (???) about 1670; also m. Isabel (???), who lived to be over 103. The Middlesex Records show that Joseph died previous to Sept. 2, 1736, when he would have been 94; had *584 Joseph, b. June, 1673; d. Dudley, Mass., in 1766, aged 93. 585 Martha, b. July 25, 1675; m. Potter, and had no children. 586 Another dau. m. a man by the name of Townsend, of Boston, Mass. THIRD GENERATION. 584 JOSEPH JEWELL m. Mary Morris (by Rev. Cotton Mather, in Boston,) Sept. 14, 1704; had among others *593 Nathaniel, b.Unknown date; d. at Dudley, Mass., in 1782 593 NATHANIEL JEWELL m.
