My grandfather, Karl Julius Green came over in 1889 and settled with family in Western New York on a farm somewhere in Allegany/Cattaraugus area. He came to Pgh as a Green, but in the mid-40s, his sons & daughters were in the will of his uncleor brother in Western New York whose name was one of the above "akas" or something close. Not much to go on, but I have made several trips to Western NY to Olean, but can't pinpoint any surnames that fit. Is your family from this area ? Any farmers ???? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your interest, June.

Surnames: Base, Basse, Baese, Baas, Baes Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RRB.2ACE/6025 Message Board Post: If anyone can do any lookups for an obituary for William or Minnie, I would appreciate it very much. I live in Michigan so have limited resources on Erie and Cattagaurus resources available to me. 1. William BAASE (b.1854-New York Harbor-New York State-Mecklenburg; d. 08 Mar 1946-East Otto, Cattaraugus Co., New York) William gives different places of birth over the years in the census but was naturalized in 1876 so Mecklenburg is the most likely place of birth. His suspected father (Joachim Dietrich) came to NY (West Seneca, NY) in 1865 from Mecklenburg. By 1880 Joachim had moved to Saginaw, Michigan. William was not listed in the 1870 Census with the rest of the family in West Seneca. Other possible spellings are Base, Basse, Baese, Baas, Baes and a slew more. 1880 - living in Buffalo 1900-1910 family says East Aurora or South Wales but haven't found in the censuses there. 1920- living in Gowanda 1930- living in Gowanda Spouse: Wilhemina UNKNOWN (b. Abt 1854-Prussia Germany; m. Abt 1873 possibly Buffalo; d.1928-New York State- likely Gowanda, Persia Town, Cattagaurus, NY as that is where William was in 1930 yet.) 2. Louis H. BAASE (b.
