    1. [NYCATTAR] Worden and Wright families
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: WORDEN, WRIGHT, CANFIELD, NOLDER, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/RRB.2ACE/6050 Message Board Post: In about 1870 Justus L. Worden and Hattie Jane Wright were married. They are my great-grandparents on my mother's side of my lineage. I have traced the Worden clan back three hundred years or more and have now begin research on the Wright side of this lineage I have used census data to track the Wrights back as far as 1850 where I find a Charles Wright living in Machias with his family that consists of Charles, age 90 (?), born MA Mary, age 40, born MA Ephraim, age 28 (?), born MA Horace, age 22, born MA Lucinda, age 18, born MA, idiot Glampa(?), age 16, born MA name unclear, gender female Rufus, age 16, born MA A second Charles Wright is found living in Olean and his family is as follows: Charles, age 48, born MA Harriet, age 46, born Conn. Lucy, age 20 (?), born NY Lucinda, age 18, born NY Erastus, age 15, born NY Luther, age 8, born NY The third family in this census year that is of interest is that of Rachel Wright who is living in Farmersville and she is 50 years old, is perhaps from VT and has three NY born boys with her. Franklin age 18 Walter age 13(?) Agustus age 10 Living next door is Amos Wright age 25 born in NY and his wife Alsima age either 18 or 19 also born in NY In 1860 Charles Wright is still in Olean with his wife and their entry reads as follows: Charles age 58, born MA Harriet, age 54, born Conn. Lucy, age 27, born NY Luther, age 18, born in NY Harriet, age 7, born in NY The seven year old Harriet is my great-grandmother. Rachel also shows up but now in Machias and she has collected the Lucinda (idiot) that in 1850 was living with the 90 year old Charles Wright and she has a 35 year old Horace Wright living with her. The Rufus Wright that was living with the 90 year old Charles is living next door and he now has a wife named Mary. All in all there are 15 Wrights living next to each other in Machias. By 1870 we find that many of these people have moved to the township of Allegany or that township boundries have changed, I know not which. The families we find in Allegany in 1870 are as follows: Rufus Wright, age 35, born MA Mary Wright, age 30, born NY Emeline Wright, age 9, born NY William Wright, age 7, born in NY ------------------------------------------------------ Charles Wright, age 68, born MA Harriet Wright, age 65, born Conn. Lucy Wright, age 38, born NY Jane Wright, age 18, born in NY Jane Wright is my Hattie Jane Wright ---------------------------------------------------- Rachel Wright, age 68, born in MA Lucinda Wright, age 43 (?) born in MA--------idiotic I have tracked the families farther down the time line and it is clear that these people must be related to each other but I am not sure who are cousins and who are siblings or even who the parents are. Census data prior to 1850 only lists heads of household and ages are not exact. A William Wright posted a query that stated that Rufus Wright was born in 1832 in Dalton Township, Birkshire County, MA back in April of 2002. He also stated that Rufus Married Mary Jane Persaul. If some one out there in research land has a key to the puzzle that surounds this family please get in touch with me at dfn@volcano.net Thank you, Donald F. Nolder

I believe that I found him in Dayton town, Cattaraugus co., NY in the 1920 census, where he was single, age 34-35, working as a servant in the Roswell DAGGETT household /establishment. (Clarence was born c.1885 in Hector, NY or Geneva, NY). Clarence was the son of Abram P. WYATT and Kate KNIGHT. Abram P. WYATT was living in West Almond, Allegany co., NY in 1920 (a widower) and Abram apparently died before 1930. - I would like to know his burial place. My great-grandmother was Edith WYATT RECKORD. In 1956 her obit stated that her brother Joseph WYATT was living in Alfred, Allegany co., NY. Joseph was born in 1889 /1890 in either Hector, Schuyler co., NY or in Geneva, Ontario co., NY. Joseph WYATT was married to Florence WARD. I found Joseph & Florence WYATT on the 1930 census in the town of Wirt, Allegany co., NY. One of their children was Melvin WYATT, b. Feb. 1928. I think this was close to Friendship, NY, since Melvin's sister Thelma Mae is buried in Friendship, NY (Maple Grove Cem.) I believe that Melvin's grandparents were Abram P. WYATT and Kate KNIGHT. Abram was born in 1856 in Tioga co., PA and Kate was born in 1859 near Hector, NY. Melvin can trace back to William BREWSTER of the Mayflower thru Abram's mother Mary GRIFFIN, whose mother was Sarah FOSDICK of Clinton, Dutchess co., NY. I have a lot more info if this is a match for your Melvin. Linda O'Halloran ohalljp@indigo.ie
