Emily Lafferty Lafferty ( she first married her cousin) married John LeBarron after her first husband died. She is buried at Cottage Cemetery in Dayton. Then I have Edith Coon who married one of the Lafferty boys, but died after a few years. Maybe, tho no one has said, in Childbirth. I have a partial burial list sent to me by the lady who sort of takes care of the records for that cemetery. It is not online, as far as I know. IF you like, I will look at that information and see what I can find. Please reply to cbarber@wrkcs.net. Carol

Hi Folks, Seems like every time I turn around someone else in the family is showing up in Cattaragaus County! The 1920 and 1930 census shows the family of Wilbur WHITE living in Salamanca (East State Street in the 1930 Census): Parents: WHITE, Wilbur, born 1889, Pa, Locomotive Engineer for Steam Rail Road. White, Ruth, age 32 (b. abt 1898), Pa. Children: Wilbur Jr, age 13 (b. abt. 1917), Pa. Helen, age 11 (b. abt 1919), Pa. Robert, age 9 (b. abt 1921), NY I don't suppose anyone knows who these folks are? Maybe has a city directory, school album, or perhaps is a long time Salamanca resident and knows/knew them personally? I believe that this is the family of Wilbur S. White, son of Arthur and Cora White of Buffalo. Any help in tracking this long lost branch of the family down would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Andrew C. White - 2nd cousin, once removed of Wilbur Jr., Helen and Robert
I want to thank everyone on this list for the responses to my posting regarding Gowanda State Hospital records. You've all been a big help. I don't think I will have any problem accessing the records I'm searching for, thanx to the List! Valerie in NH
I only know the record I was looking for was 1930+. However you may also want to look for NY State Census info. I found records from the State Hospital on workers and residents in the 1925 (Persia) area that were interesting. Give the Buffalo Psych.Center a call, what could it hurt to ask? You may find a wealth of info. Good Luck. He was born 11 Feb 1758 (location unknown), married Elinor Brewer 25 Mar 1781 and died sometime before 13 Apr 1821 at Hoosick, NY. They had eleven children. That's where things get a little unusual. Three of their daughters (Mary, Jemima & Lizzy) married three LeBarron brothers (Abizer, Alden and Linus). I am descended from Alden and Jemima. In the next generation there were three more Coon-LeBarron weddings. None of them in my direct line. My ancestor Alden and much of the extended family moved west to Cottage, NY near Buffalo starting in 1836. If anyone can provide any further information on Joseph Coon or Elinor Brewer, I would greatly appreciate it
Hi! Gowanda Psychiatric Center closed officially in 1994 when the state converted the institution into a State Correctional Facility. However most of the residents were gone by then(Thanks to Cuomo who put many on the streets). Records should be found at the Buffalo Psych. Hospital as already stated. I have even received employment records by contacting the Buff. Psy. Center. The lady who I spoke with was very helpful. Valerie. If you go to http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/Downs/3548/facility/gowanda.htm you can get some background on Gowanda State Hospital. I'm not sure where the old records are but suspect they may be in storage in Albany. If not in Albany they may have been sent to Buffalo Psychiatric Center when Gowanda closed. Valerie, I got my grandfather's Gowanda records by writing the Buffalo Psychiatric Center, 400 Forrest Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14213. Give them as much information as you have to help in their search. Hi Folks, It also appears that there is an index listing for the 1855 state census for Franklinville available on the web-site. If anyone has access to the actual microfilm could they take a look at: WADE, George, page 292 WING, Elnathan, page 291 WARNER, Rosewell, page 266 Thanks, Andrew C. White
Hi Folks, I found a printout I made a few years back of the index to 1865 NY state census for the Town of Yorkshire. Looks like I found this index on the Cattaragus rootsweb page. There is a: WHITE, Wm. ... listed on page 631 of the microfilm. I don't suppose anyone has access to that microfilm and could look him up for me? Thanks, Andrew C. White

I am looking for the death records for someone who was listed in the 1880 census in South Valley. She died in 1884 but the state has no record of her death. The remaining family was found in the 1885 NYS census living in Carroll. Carroll has no record of her death so I am hoping that some place in South Valley they have records. I have sent letters in years past to the "Town Historian" but I have never recieved any answer. Does anyone have any suggestions?
