The statue of Mary Jemison is in Letchworth State Park, which is on the Genesee River between Mount Morris and Portageville. A beautiful place and well worth the visit if you are ever in the area. This is the area where she lived most of her life, She was born on board ship in 1743 and died on the Seneca Indian reservation at age 90. If you can obtain a book her story is fascinating. Fran
I am looking for the final resting place for William Wallace Gore. The only information that I have is that he died in Red House post 1930. In 1930 he was living in Elk County PA. He was born in 1850, the son of William Elliott and Alvira Kinner Gore in Bradford County PA. He was married to an unknown Melinda. They had two adopted children Helene and Muril both born in 1890. Are there more than one cemetery in Red House? Any direction would be greatly appreciated! Mike Wennin Come Visit the Cameron County Genealogy Project! http://www.rootsweb.com/~pacamero

She was kidnapped by Indians, her parents killed but they took her. There is some about her on Net and a book that the author personally interviewd her and wrote what she said. She has a statue of her in NY , Cattargus? Indian in book. I saw one for sale at Higginsonbooks.com. I had read it from a city library years ago.I did find one to buy written in novel form from Clear Light Publishers. Their address is Clear Right Publishers, 823 Don Diego, Santa Fe, New Mexico. I have seen the statue etc on net. Search Mary Jemison , White woman of the Genesee. That is a county in New York. I have seen queries on this board. I researched her to see if my Jemison family was kin, They were not. Yours is the first message I have seen that makes me think you are possibly a descendant. You know how it is, everyone wants to be kin to a very famous person so watch for fraudulent genealogies. My Jemisons land! ed in PA then the regular immigration route thru GA and on to Alabama. I forget the name of author but saw it on Higginsons books. I have bought many family books from them. All correct as to a kinship.

Fred - I had a minute to check the 1850 census records for you - Earle Sawyer is listed in the index as EARLE SAYRE instead of Sawyer, and in the actual record, the census taker spelled it as SAYER - then wrote a little W over the Y. A John Sayer, age 22, is living with Earle and Polly - making him the right age for your John Sawyer. Also living with them is Martha Sayer, age 18, and Eunice, age 34, and what appear to be Herman Hyde, age 16 (?) , and May A. Hyde, age 12. So hopefully this is your John! She would have been his second cousin 3 times removed, as he was son of Timothy, who was son of Timothy, who was son of Edward. Of course, if you mean one of the other Walters, then the answer is still probably "yes,' but the details would be different.

Hi, I'm looking for data on an Earl SAWYER b. about 1789, in Vermont, wife Polly b. about 1794 in New Hampshire. Trying to determine if they had a son named John S. SAWYER, b. about 1928. My leads come from census data, but I believe he may be a direct ancestor of mine. In 1860 my 3rd g-grandfather, John S. SAWYER, appears in the Centerville, Allegany Co., census, with his parents listed as born in Vermont and New Hampshire. John had a son named Earl D. SAWYER. Earl had a grandson named, Earl D. Gillette. I believe the name may have been passed down from this first Earl Sawyer. Any help or advice is greatly appreciated, Fred Las Vegas, NV _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
