    1. [NYCATTAR] OLD BOARDWAY & WINTER PHOTOS FOUND
    2. Hello, I have rescued 3 cabinet card photos in Texas of the Boardway and Winter families. One of the photos is of a Nick Winter, one is of Emma Boardway.  Both of these photos were taken by C. H. Sisson Photographers in Delevan, Cattaraugus Co. NY. They appear to have been taken near the same time as the photographer's print is identical on both cards.  The third photo is of "Mrs. N. Winter and son, Francis Winter."  This is the postcard style photo, and has the year 1912 written on the back side, along with the identification.  All three photos are in very good condition:  no tears, spots, etc. I have no connection to these families.  I am not a business, just a history person who hates to see these old photos lost forever, when somebody would probably love to have them.  Precious few have any ID on them.   So, if you may be interested in these photos, or know of somebody who connects to them, I would like very much to hear from you. Thank you for your time.  Judy in Texas <BR><BR>**************************************<BR> AOL now offers free email to everyone.

Author: cdnarmy Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/10483/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I have been monitoring the family of Eldad Blackney and Sally Cross as I suspect Sally is the sister of Polly, who married Thomas Townsend, an early settler of Cattaraugus County. They would be sisters of my direct ancestor Zebulon Cross. In the Blackney family information I have found the information on 5 children who all died in 1841. Adelbert died Mar 12; Lewis died Jan 20; Eliza died Jan 17; Phebe died Jan 8; and Seth died Jan 4. Four children died within a span of 16 days? Was there an epidemic that anyone knows of to account for such a dramatic and dreadful outcome to affect one family? Chester, Aaron III, and Simon (brothers, I think) were all in Churchill's Brigade of the NY Militia. I'm having difficulty now finding more on Aaron Jr and Elizabeth. I think Aaron Jr was the son of Aaron Bunce and Jerusha Scott...? I have no idea who Chester's wife Charlotte might have been - or, when/where they met and married. I don't think they married in Ohio, because only Aaron III has a marriage recorded in Ohio. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NYCATTAR] Carlin in New York State 1891 - ????
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: journeyonward Surnames: Carlin/Carlyn, Miller/Muller/Mueller Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/10480.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Caroline(Carrie)Miller was born June 1872 in Oleans, N.Y. to Jacob Miller and Margaretha(Knorr)Miller. Jacob and Margaretha came from Germany to Canada and then down into New York state. Muller/Mueller was the old German spelling of the name. There is no confirmed birth date/location/parental names for James W. Carlin. A family tree for Carrie and James was started at the LDS site by someone who has since passed away. It gives Jame's birth as about 1866 in Oleans, but I have no proof of that. I managed to track down a member of this person's family. The person involved was a member of LDS and taught genealogy classes, and they had no way of knowing why she put this on the site. They don't know of any family connection to them. Along with the info on Carrie and James, the person also submitted a family tree with members of Carrie's family included, and to my amazement also included Walter B. White as Carrie's second husband. Carrie is my Grandmother, and Walter is my grand! father. Bessie was born in Oleans, N. Y. in 1892. Carrie came to Illinois to work, and did not marry my grandfather until June 0f 1896 in Illinois. They were in Illinois for awhile, and then homesteaded in Oklahoma. Bessie lived with Carrie's mother and father in Oleans until they passed away ( Jacob in 1894 in Oleans, Margaretha in 1904 in Whiting ,Indiana while visting her son...her burial was back at home in Oleans). At the age of 12, (sometime in 1094),Bessie was put on a train in Oleans and sent to Oklahaoma to be with Carrie. Bessie always kept the name of Miller...never went by Carlin. I have chased James W. Carlin/Carlyns, etc. all over the country, but can not find a trail tying into the 1893-94 period of Oleans New York or where he came from originally. My cousins, The grandchildren of Bessie have been trying to find out about James Carlin for years. I just started family research a year ago,and have been working on the Carlin puzzle ever since, hoping I might f! ind something for them. Bessie was a grand lady who lived through The Depression,The Dustbowl, the lost of children, and the early tragic death of her husband. Any assistence you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. Re: [NYCATTAR] newspaper in Salamanca for obits? Looking for Laskowski, Vesneski
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: lauhow Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.newyork.counties.cattaraugus/10474.3.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Salamanca is small but growing. It's newspaper is in its 140th year and growing as well. The Salamanca Republican-Press was so named because it was a merger of two papers: The Cattaraugus Republican and The Salamanca Press. After the original family sold out in the 1980s, the paper's name was again shortened to The Salamanca Press, (someone thought Republican-Press sounded political). I am the current editor. The 1979 obituary would not be found on our web archive, since we only started posting obits a few years ago. Unfortunately, we don't have the staff time to do look-ups for people (I wish we did)and our microfilm reader does not print. We do supply microfilm to the Salamanca Public Library, where microfilm images can be printed. If you have a contact in the city or if the library staff is willing (I do not know if this is the case, perhaps you could obtain the obit that way.
