    3. Re Charlene Kunold McCarthy's post below: Hi, Charlene,     That was good to post this to the Irish in NYC list too.  I suggest you send this to the McCarthy list in addition. I see your father was the McCarthy.  Have you had his Y-DNA done (familytreedna)? Although this will probably not be an immediate solution, in the long run it is necessary because McCarthy is a clan name and (like occupation names) says nothing about whether you are related genetically to someone of the same surname within the recent past.  I have gotten my Irish relatives with such names to take the test for future illumination.  So either your father or your brother or his sons need to take the test.  If no such males are alive, then look backward for another male descent line.  (I am not taking your information and researching unless you ask something specific.)     I am assuming they are Roman Catholic (not all McCarthys are) so have you figured out from where they lived what church they attended?  You seem to have used census records, newspaper records, and city directories.  Have you collected vital, church, probate, and cemetery records?     Let us know how it goes.     Elizabeth Knowlton >I'm looking for any information or descendants. I'd love to see anything about their lives in NYC from IRE. I'm not sure if any of the family left in IRE came to USA although I have them somewhat documented.
