Thru DNA, I think I have finally found my great-grandfather's long-lost (to me) brother. They came from Ireland to Manhattan as children abt 1850, served in the Civil War as young men and then bought a team of horses and a cart to become cartmen in Manhattan. James Quinlan, my great-grandfather, moved on to another occupation...and his brother John Quinlan vanished from the records. I have spent years looking for him but it's a common name. Thru a DNA match on Ancestry, I believe I have found my John Quinlan in the town of New Lots in Kings County. Married w children. New Lots did not become part of Brooklyn til c1886. I am seeking any info I can about New Lots, especially how to get a death cert. John Quinlan died 6 or 7 January 1885 in New Lots. Cert # 1564. Cert # is from Ital Gen. Death date from Kings County Estate Files on FamilySearch--but no microfilm # on Family Search. NY state death index has wrong info--ignore. All New Lots info and sources welcome--history, anything. The residents were not even listed in the Bklyn city directories til after New Lots became part of Bklyn. Was there a New Lots directory? ----Thanks a lot--Virginia
Steve Morse has the website where you plug in the information and it gives you the film number. It may or may not have the information for New Lots. https://stevemorse.org/vital/filmnotes.html Gail Sent from my AT&T iPhone. ~ Gail ~ > On May 10, 2018, at 08:19, VLB via NY-IRISH <ny-irish@rootsweb.com> wrote: > > Thru DNA, I think I have finally found my great-grandfather's long-lost (to me) brother. I am not sure what you are asking with your ??? My statement said it may or may not have information for New Lots per the information supplied by the questioner. Did something else not make sense? Here is the film # according to Steve Morse web site 1323789 - Brooklyn death certificates, 1862-1897 I just looked and if you go to your nearest FHL you can view and download or print the certificate right there. If you have any problem let me know and I can get it for you (no charge) the next time I am at the library.
