Part of the budget bill that was passed included language that bars public release of Social Security death data that is less than 3 years after the death. The law took effect in March, 2014 so it will be 2017 before any deaths begin to be added to the "master file." The wise politicians and bureaucrats decided that limiting the information would reduce identity theft and fraud which outweighed --in their minds-- any use genealogists and other researchers might have. They also created huge subscription fees/programs for companies and individuals to gain access to the master file...all politics and money.
