    3. You are missing a LOT if you have not signed onto the NEW ancestry which they tell us is going to become the permanent ancestry. WE ALL need to speak out if we want to have the option to continue using what that are calling "Classic" ancestry. The NEW site is horrible as far as I am concerned. MANY of the features we used to use are GONE. To see what a mess they have made of things you need to go to the NEW ancestry view. You will be able to switch back to Classic right now but soon the NEW version will be the only one unless we speak up. They kept this NEW thing VERY quiet. I only know ONE person who was notified of the coming changes--and luckily she told me about it so I was able to see for myself. I have been trying to put the site through it's paces and there is SO many tools that have disappeared it is crazy. To sign on to the NEW and NOT improved version you need to go to the upper R corner and click on NEW...you are in for a shock. So far I have compiled a 2 page list of things that have either disappeared OR don't work right. I will forward this list (which is in WORD) to anyone who wants it- I suggest EVERYONE take it for a thorough test drive and see what I am talking about. MANY tools I use are gone...like being able to make comments. I use comments on my profile page to make notes about links I have found for various things that I am not sure belong in my tree, I use comments to remind myself of issues to check into. When I am confused about something I make a comment and sometimes other folks have left ME a comment that helped me figure something out...You can no longer make comments on stories. When I upload a story from an outside source I use the comments to put a link to that info on the web as if you put it IN the story, most the time the link gets broken. Stories no longer have ANY formatting. This means anything you add as a story is going to be one non stop long story...I often paste the info on records I find on familysearch for birth, marriage and death. On family search it is nicely laid out...when you put it on ancestry now it is one long paragraph, making it difficult to ascertain what the familysearch docs says. Comments on anything are a thing of the past...member connect is gone except on the home page which it not very useful when you want to see what other folks have on a specific person. SO many things are gone or are not working at the current tine. Things that are not working correctly are not as much of a concern as they will probably get those things fixed as long as they are informed about it. It is the research tools which have vanished that are scary. I used to have all kinds of comments, links etc for people etc--that helped me stay on track with people and know from a glance what issues remained to be resolved---GONE with the new system. SO I have 15 years worth of various notes to remind myself of things I will never see again. We are only going to be able to keep the ancestry we know, if we can convince them we want to be able to have the choice to view out trees and do research under either option. Right now, the ancestry you are currently looking at is going away=FOREVER It will only be through LOTS of us voicing our displeasure that we have a CHANCE of them keeping the ancestry version we prefer. I will be happy to email anyone the WORD doc I have made so far--I have not explored everything and YOU might find things that YOU like that I don't know of gone also... If we are to have any hope of keeping MANY things that help us do out research we need to speak up. The ONLY good thing I can say about the NEW version is that is shows you all the alternate DOB's, DOD's and names. You can no longer edit any field for birth death etc that says unknown...there is just NO way to delete that entry (which ancestry told me years ago should not be done as ancestry did NOT program their computers to read "unknown" as a blank space. There IS a quick programming fix for this ancestry COULD make --and it should have been this way from the start to treat all boxes that say unknown as a blank...right now they don't--so anyone you have written unknown for the ancestry is searching for a birth or death date of UNKNOWN--You will NEVER get a hint as to the birth date on those folks unless it comes from some other doc that shows up as a hint on your tree. There are SO many things wrong with the way the site is set up now that I cannot go into them all. I will be happy to email a WORD doc for the things I have found so far---and I have not even scratched the surface. Everybody should check out the new version and see what you think--but to find things that no longer work right you are going to have to try to do things in your tree that you used to be able to do. JMHO the new version, which they were VERY quiet about, so most folks will be blind-sided when they log on one day and find all their comments, and a LOT of their stuff missing they are not going to be happy. If they hear from enough of us (and there are several methods of dong this, I advise using as many ways possible such as FEEDBACK calling them and also writing to Corporate. Right now they WANT to hear from us...and they need to hear abotu every single thing you don't like so they either give us back those functions OR let us keep Classic as an alternative. If we DON'T voice our opinions NOW-one day we are going to wake up and find a LOT of things we have put on our tree either gone or messed up. DO sign on while you still have the ability to switch back to the old AFTER you have explored the new site and seen the changes that YOU don't like--they have taken away a LOT of valuable research tools. Since most the site is dark gray or black now it is going to cost you a fortune to print off things for your personal files... I hope a LOT of people help me find all the things we don't like so we can let them know. That is the ONLY shot we have of getting the site to be usable as it is now...MANY things are going away. I imagine they planned on sneaking these new changes in on us...MANY people are mad as a hornet about the changes. Let me know if you want a copy of the 2 pages I have found so far--I haven't even looked at many parts of the site yet. I am a little afraid to to be honest..so many things are messed up now.
