    3. I made an error in my posting....................I was looking at mailing lists and then message boards not just message boards....... No clue why they have mailing lists and message boards for the same geographical area.........Just seems redundany -----Original Message----- From: Elizabeth Knowlton via <[email protected]> To: nyc-roots <[email protected]> Sent: Sun, Jun 14, 2015 7:35 am Subject: Re: [NYC-ROOTS] NYC-ROOTS Message Boards While I am sure Rootsweb (and eventually Ancestry and even WE) will disappear, at the moment the Message Boards for Rootsweb and Ancestry that I checked, mainly New York Co., are absolutely identical, down to the interface, colors, etc. You may enter the message boards through either Rootsweb or Ancestry, the only difference being that you do not need a subscription with Rootsweb. So encourage your non-subscribing friends to utilize what is here right now. I live in one of the largest cities in the USA, and even here we have no access in our homes or even our branch libraries to Ancestry. Libraries are on hard times--for a while this year my branch was open only a few days a week, all part time workers were let go, etc. I have access to the libraries of two counties, and I think in only one is Ancestry available right there in the main library. Believing in the Glass Half Full theory of life, I suggest we use Rootsweb to its fullest extent right now: our mailing lists (only on Rootsweb), World Connect's database of family trees (which you can easily upload to and download from to your own computer database plus can be seen for free by others), the message boards, and many free search engines and databases. When it is going/gone (like my knees, my eyesight, etc.), then it is gone. For now, Eat, Drink, and Be Merry. And also, a reminder, those of us who use Digest ask that you delete long strings of unrelated messages below your new message and that you use relevant Subject Lines because we cannot "just delete" a digest without scrolling through the whole thing lest we lose new messages at the bottom.
