If the DC is more than 50 yrs old, you are entitled to it, even if you are not a directline descendant. However, you really need to know the exact place of death. LDS lists a Death Index for NYS in the 1960s. Warning: Lately many municipalities have refused me actual DC copies; instead they've sent me typewritten transcriptions that omit key information, but they charge full price. Another point is that there is a Village of Hempstead, Town of Hempstead, Town of North Hempstead. -----Original Message----- From: Debbie via <[email protected]> I need to request a death certificate for a man who died in the late 1960s in either Long Beach or Atlantic Beach. It appears that both are located in the Town of Hempstead in Nassau County. 1. Where do I get the death certificate? I looked at the website for the Town of Hempstead and they only seem to list marriage licenses. 2. Can I request the record? I am not a direct descendant.... 3. Is there any other source for obtaining the record that might be more affordable than requesting it from the gov't? Might the LDS have the record? TIA! Debbie
