It was issued in 1936, and on it, he reports he was naturalized. I already knew that he had been naturalized, but now I know it had to be before 1936. I might also add that he lived most of his life in Brooklyn, although his arrival record has him going to an uncle in Connecticut. I can find naturalization records of the uncle in Connecticut, and also of the brother/cousin that he came over with, who seems to have stayed in Connecticut with the uncle. I seem to remember that, years ago, I had the index number regarding his naturalization in the Eastern District of New York, which is Brooklyn. However, I cannot find any record of his naturalization anywhere, in any court, on either Ancestry or Family Search. I've tried every combination of spelling I can think of, and am beginning to feel as if I am related to all his Soundex "cousins". I have had some success in the past using alternate sources, such as the Ellis Island website, or Italiangen, when records were not showing up on Ancestry or Family Search. Does anyone have an alternate search engine for naturalization in Federal Court, or naturalization in general? (I know that at one point, it was all hands on deck, they were naturalizing in practically every court, but I would like to eliminate the Eastern District of New York before looking elsewhere.) Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks,Frances Researching:Ireland/New York City: Carey, Gray, Glynn/Glinn, Bannon Lithuania/New York City: Buivydas, Mockevicius Scotland/Ireland/Rhode Island/Connecticut/New York City: Drysdale, Duffy, Chapman-0-Qui vit sans folie n'est pas si sage qu'il croit.~Francois de La Rochefoucault ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
Thanks, Robert! I tried this one, and it says, "John Buivydas, arrived as Jonas Bugwidas," and it gives the ship, etc. However, I have already identified the passenger record for John, and examined the manifest, and it does not match in any way with the record for Jonas Bugwidas, when I look him up on Ancestry. Bugwidas left from a different port, different ship, etc. It doesn't seem to be my John Buivydas. However, I will play around with this some more. I also sent a FOIR for his FBI file, as he was an active member of the Communist Party, and a union organizer and writer for a Lithuanian daily. Maybe, just maybe, I will get some info from that, but I am not inclined to think they would put his date and location of naturalization. Any other ideas for finding his naturalization?I'm trying to get every scrap of information I can, and will then hire a researcher in Lithuania. I have a few DNA cousins over there who already have extensive family trees. I just have to connect them. Then, I will try to start scheduling visits to some archives which have copies of the publications he wrote for.
