    1. [NYC-ROOTS] Still trying to find my grandmother-can you help?
    2. Elizabeth Martinez-Gibson
    3. Hi Everyone. Many of you have heard my story in searching for my grandmother. I may have found a breakthrough, so I was hoping sks might be able to do a lookup. I am working with process of elimination. My grandmother, Bertha Eliza (nee Dewar and her married name in 1953 was Hein) born July 28, 1908 in the Bronx. She divorced John F. Hein in FL in 1953 and no one has heard from her since. When one of her sons died in 1977, the other son tried to find her (even hired some private investigator in FL) without success. I have spent a number of years trying to find her too. Anyway...yesterday on GenealogyBank (somehow I got a preview search) I did an SSDI search for Bertha's born in 1908 and last place of residence in NY. Now, I don't know if that was her last place of residence (the 1953 divorce was in FL.), but she was from NY and lived in NY up until this divorce (and her entire family are NYers), so I thought I would check NY. I found a Bertha Hanover with the exact match dob (July 28, 1908) with a death date of July 28, 2005 (how ironic...she was also married to John Hein on July 28 in 1928). This was the only exact dob match in NY. Since this search has been like finding a needle in a haystack and I have tried many things, I thought I would try to find a Bertha Hanover before 1953 in NY/NJ (the SS was issued in NJ). Would sks check to see if there was a Bertha Hanover in the 1920 and 1930 census? The last address listed for Bertha Hanover on the SSDI is Floral Park, NY and the SS card was issued in NJ. If Bertha Hanover existed prior to 1953, then she would not be my grandmother. If not, this is a possible lead. I appreciate any help you can give. Thanks, Liz
