    2. Bill, In 1859 my shoemaking trio of brothers had shops on Catherine and Mott Streets, in Manhattan. In later years they had a branch on Greenwich Street. You are probably aware that the general population lived below Chambers Street until approx. the Civil War. The wealthy began moving first uptown to the 20s-40s. North of that was farmland in Manhattan 1855. As the have-nots moved north, the haves built their mansions further north in Manhattan.
