(See below) You might try writing for a copy of her application. There is a Bertha Hanover in the 1930 Census in Memphis, Tennessee, but she was born in Poland. There is an Elizabeth Hanover in NY in 1930, but she was born in Germany. No Bertha Hanover in 1920 that I could find on Ancestry.com. Now, I don't know if that was her last place of residence (the 1953 divorce was in FL.), but she was from NY and lived in NY up until this divorce (and her entire family are NYers), so I thought I would check NY. I found a Bertha Hanover with the exact match dob (July 28, 1908) with a death date of July 28, 2005 (how ironic...she was also married to John Hein on July 28 in 1928). This was the only exact dob match in NY. Since this search has been like finding a needle in a haystack and I have tried many things, I thought I would try to find a Bertha Hanover before 1953 in NY/NJ (the SS was issued in NJ). Would sks check to see if there was a Bertha Hanover in the 1920 and 1930 census? The last address listed for Bertha Hanover on the SSDI is Floral Park, NY and the SS card was issued in NJ. If Bertha Hanover existed prior to 1953, then she would not be my grandmother. If not, this is a possible lead. I appreciate any help you can give.
