    3. Hello Dianna, I am a descendant of Jeuriaen Caljer (Colyer). He lived in Kings County, (Brooklyn area), Long Island, New York. Many times he is refered to as Jeuriaen Caljer of Long Island. This surname became spelled as COLLIER by 1800. I have noticed that there is also an IRISH name, or British name, spelled Collier. However, because your family listed included so many DUTCH name, I am 'assuming' you family actually is tied to the DUTCH Caljer/Colyer family. This however does not help you in your immediate research, and perhaps this is something you already worked before. Sorry if this is old news. Just trying to help. In my family line Jannetje Caljer b. 1676, married Nicholas Brouwer b. 1672 Gowanus, Brooklyn, Kings Co., NY (Long Island) She was the daughter of Jeuriaen Caljer. Jeuriaen Colyer was a Ship Builder. He is included in "The Eary Settlers of Bushwick" by Andre Provost. (Bushwick is a neighborhood in Kings Co NY). In my Brouwer (Brower) family line they used the name Jeremiah over and over many generations and this was in honor of Jeuriaen. I also found many uses of Jurrie, Jury, which was another form of the name. I wonder, did you find any forms of this name in your line? Best regards, Lilly Martin Adam Brouwer 1620-1698 descendant ----- Original Message ----- From: "dianna charles" <diamonddi57@optusnet.com.au> To: <NYC-ROOTS@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, May 17, 2010 10:51 AM Subject: [NYC-ROOTS] Collier/Van Bechten/Bennehoff > Hi > I'm doing research into Charles COLLIER who was born in NY in 1844.
