I am new to this list and searching information on two brothers of my mother who emigrated from Birkenhead, England, and settled in New York City. Peter McCann, born 2nd July 1900, arrived N.Y. on the Carmenia 12 Aug 1922. The manifest says he would be staying with his father at 337 East 22nd St. In 1962 he was residing at 1107 5th Ave, I think he was a janitor. In 1968 when he died he was living at 10537 Lake Peekskill, Putnam. His Social Security No 114-09-7836 Somewhere along the line he married Helen, and I would like to trace her surname and date of marriage. There were no known children. Joseph Gerald McCann, born 24th April 1905, arrived N.Y. on the Carmenia 1st Oct 1923. The manifest says he also would be staying with his father at 337 East 22nd St. In 1940 he was residing Lexington Ave. In 1963 he was at 70 East 77 St. N.Y. He died within a month of his brother in 1968, living at 112 Park Ave. His Social Security No 082-05-6313 Somewhere along the line he married Margaret, and I would like to trace her surname and date of marriage. There were no known children. Joe served in the army and was in Europe during WW11. I remember him visiting us in England in his uniform at the end of the war when I was six. Both brothers sent food parcels to my mother at Christmas during the war. I would love to trace Joe's record during the fighting, but I don't know where to start. The father of the boys (another Peter McCann) came back to England in the 20's. He seems to have made regular visits to N.Y. for work. He later bought a small farm in Ireland where he was born and where he died. Any help, particularly on the marriages and Joe's army record would be much appreciated. Ced McGrath, Merseyside, England
