Thanks for the info on new york city marrages. I found my grandfather and grandmoters in 1892. I would like to get a copy of the certificate and it listed the number, but how and where do I get it. Thanks for all your help. I am searching for a Fritz Gunther s/o Charles/Karl/Carl Gunther who, it is believed, emigrated to NYC in about the early to middle of the 19 century. His brother, who was also Charles/Karl/Carl Gunther, was Swiss who emigrated to the UK in about 1830. I'm afraid that is all I have on Fritz. He went to live in Flint, Flintshire, North Wales where he died in 1896. He had a large family and his descendants live there today. This is my friend's ancestry and he said he read somewhere Charles/Carl had a brother who emigrated to Rochester, NYC. If there are no records to search then it doesn't matter. I just thought it worth a mention on his behalf. Sorry about that.
