C. Pope is more than likely the name of the sexton, the man in charge of the cemetery, including recording burials in their records. If you can't nail down the exact cemetery name and location, this name and occupation could be a very helpful clue. Use this to try and locate him in old city directories, anything you can find after 1832 or maybe even in census returns (maybe even tax or marriage records?), anything that might list his occupation around this 1832 timeframe. If you can figure out where C. Pope lived, the odds would be pretty good that he lived close to the cemetery if not on the actual grounds so he could keep an eye on things and manage the cemetery affairs. If you find this cemetery in uptown Manhattan above where Central Park is today (especially if it's in the Harlem area) and the ME church is nearby or on the same grounds, please let us know. This might even help me too.
