Is there anyone with access to ancestry who would be willing to lookup and try to read the immigration record for Vincenzo Marchese? I cant read it well. Arrival date is May 12, 1909. Born about 1870 in Italy. Port of departure is Naples, Italy and the name of the ship is "Madonna". It says his birth place is Minlneri, Italy. I cant find that town and I think its a typo...Is there anyone who can read the name of the town on the actual record? His daughter and son-in-law immigrated from Stigliano, Italy. Im guessing he would be from that general area. Also under the section of name and address of closest relative from where he came, it looks like it says "son, wife" or "his wife" and I cant read the rest. His 1930 census record says he immigrated in 1909 and his wife and son came in 1913. Thanks in advance. Kim
Hi Kim and Everyone, The microfilm manifests for ships arriving in New York from 1820 to the 1940s are digitized and online at the Internet Archive. I've created finding guides to help you find the reel you want. The guides are at http://Guides.DonsList.net Once there, click on the link for the New York manifests - 1897-1909 . A list of reels with links will appear in the upper right frame. Scroll down to the one covering this date; the reels are in date order so the one for May 9, 1909 is pretty far down. Click on the link and the correct page on the Internet Archive will open in a new tab or window. To the left you will see a link which allows you to use the Internet Archives's online viewer. Click on that. There are just a few manifest on this reel. The first one, which is likely the one you want, is for the Montevideo, which visited Genoa, Napes, Barcelona, and Cadiz. I didn't go through the manifest; it's quite a few pages but perhaps once in the book, you can satisfy yourself that this is the correct ship and speed finding the correct page by comparing the page you have. I hope this is helpful. The guides also cover manifests for ships arriving in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Seattle, and St. Albans, VT.
